Members of Congregation Solel is in Highland Park said that this custodian was well liked and also a hard worker, someone who was around seven days a week, 365 days a year. Now he is not working. He is in jail being held on $200,000 bond.
Parents said they are shocked, sickened and appalled about the arrest of a long-time custodian.
Forty-nine-year-old Salome Zequeida is accused of rigging a video camera in a handicapped bathroom and taping about 20 children during the last few weeks. Workmen discovered the camera. "Some workers who were working in the school came across some evidence of the video camera being installed in the bathroom, and came across videos that contained these images, and after that occurred they notified the police," said Patricia Fix, Lake County assistant state's attorney.
Highland Park police say staff members at the building, which serves as a synagogue and Montessori school, are taking this seriously.
The leaders of Congregation Solel have released a statement, which says in part:
"This hurts. It is a painful betrayal of trust. At the same time, our hearts are sad. As a Jewish congregation, we are committed to both justice and compassion. Be assured that the leadership of Solel has acted swiftly and appropriately and will continue to cooperate with the police investigation." [ABC7]
UOJ….good one!
UOJ….that was a cheap shot.
You sure it was not Rabbi KOlko who placed the camera in the bathroom?
We need to remember the reason why Sarah Imenu banished Ishmael from Yitzcack. I was taught that it was for “sporting” with him.
According to my parents it is a tendency among the nations to “sport” with little children and that our children need to be shielded from them.
Too many in our Jewish communities have gotten comfortable and complacent about exposing our children to the people we hire to care for them and our homes.
This should be another wake up call.
