New Haven CT – Edgewood Residents To Have Own Shomrim On Streets.

New Haven CT – Tired of what they claim is lip service and hollow promises from the city and Police Department, Edgewood neighborhood residents said Monday they will take up weapons and start armed patrols of their own streets.

For years, we have appealed to (Police) Chief Francisco Ortiz for officers on the beat here, but to no avail. After each mugging or robbery we get a few phone calls from the city and cosmetic cameo police involvement, but nothing serious happens,” said Eliezer Greer, executive director of the Edgewood Neighborhood Association.

Months ago, the association sent a letter to City Hall warning that armed civilian patrols were a possibility if the Police Department didn’t start protecting the community. Greer said two people already obtained pistol permits in the event they had to make good on the pledge and others in the community already had permits to carry.

On Sunday, a rabbi was assaulted without provocation by three youths outside his Elm Street home. While he was not seriously injured, the incident triggered the group to take action, Greer said.

The Edgewood Park Defense Patrol, as the group calls itself, will start nightly patrols immediately, Greer said. [New Haven Register]

Actually, yes. They are going to walk around with shirts that say just that. And yes, people WILL be more hesitant to attack someone wearing that shirt because they KNOW that person is most likely armed. And theres is nothing funny about any of it on any level.
And GOOD FOR THEM!! That useless police dept and the even MORE useless mayor are doing absolutely nothing to protect the community. The need for this sort of thing is exactly why we have our second amendment rights!
For the record, people, GUNS ARE NOT DANGEROUS! PEOPLE ARE!
Spoons dont make us fat, pens dont mispell words, guns dont shoot people.
Dogs cost infinitely more than guns to maitain and renters dont always have the option of a dog.
You think that criminals are going to find this silly? You think that the Edgewood patrols will not make it any safer than before? Well, look and learn. Studies have proven that the possibility of getting the death penalty have curtailed crime rates. You do the math.

I agree dogs are safer to use than guns. A dog can keep an attacker at bay without anyone getting hurt. A gun can do a lot of damage and hurt the wrong person, or the attacker can sue if he gets hurt, in this crazy country with laws protecting the wrong people.

NOT JUST DUMB…VERY DUMB you dont walk around witha concealed weapon thinking that you will use it ,no one will be more scared of you bec its concealed and you can never pull it out unless you are shot at first ..so grow up & be mature and leave the guns at home

first rule of carrying a gun
know very well how to use it
second rule is use it only as a last resort
thrid and most important rule is if you do use it, finish the job cause a dead guy can’t and won’t sue for as much as a live one

good for them, Mi K’amcho Yisroel…just one bit of advice from a seasoned shomrim member here in NY.

DONT TURN INTO A VIGILANTE GROUP!!! It may cost you more than the whole patrol is worth.
