The agency no longer accepts doctors’ notes as proof that customers need paratransit service, forcing Access-a-Ride users to visit testing centers and walk up steps of a mock bus entrance to prove their disabilities.
“It’s humiliating coming down here,” said Patricia Forbes, 56, of Canarsie, who was recently interviewed about her spinal disease in a hallway because rooms at the Omni Rehabilitation Center in Flatbush were full. “If you already have the person in the system, you know their case.
