Toddler Run Over By Car Backing Up In Brooklyn
(CBS) BROOKLYN An 18-month-old Brooklyn boy was run over by a car backing out of his neighbor’s driveway.
Police say the boy was pronounced dead at a hospital after this afternoon’s accident in the Midwood neighborhood.
As soon as the child was pronounced dead, the Hevra Kadisha Orthodox Jewish holy workers were on the scene for a ritual cleansing of the spot where the accident occurred. Neighbors were quick to console each other and offer emotional support in this close-knit community.
“I feel sad, especially as a community,” said David Cohen. “This block is a close block, everyone here knows each other. We feel sad about it.”
Neighbors say an elderly woman who has lived here for many years was backing out of the driveway in a gold-colored automobile when it struck the child. Residents pointed out a surveillance camera across the street that they say caught the incident on tape. Police conducted a thorough investigation but people here, who are reluctant to speak on camera, say the driver was likely oblivious to what happened as she drove off.
Residents told CBS 2 the woman who was driving is very careful and loves the children in the neighborhood
It’s being reported on the news that the child was tragicaly run over by a neighbor. The neighbor knew nothing of the incident and kept on driving.

Hello, the child ran out behind the car. The driver must have been so shaken that he didnt know what to do. You should all never be in such a situation to know how he felt. Rachmano Litzlon. He killed a young child and that will be on his concious his whole life.

My comments were based on the info I had at that time. If the driver left the scene that is more like behavior of a behema not a driver. My comments do not apply.
The driver left the scene in a white seden, but there is video from a nearby house.
Halevi these things should never happen, the RSO should give the strength to the family to survive.
however, any driver should know thas can happen to anybody, any driver anytime. Sometimes it is not preventable by the driver.
