Sacramento, CA – William Ostrow, a 78-year-old Sacramento man who was deeply devoted to his family and to his community and president of the Sacramento Mortgage Association, was killed by a hit-and-run driver who police said had been speeding and swerving through traffic along a busy stretch of Folsom Boulevard.

Ostrow was riding with a close friend, one mile east of California State University, Sacramento, when their Geo Prizm was struck head-on by a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe, police said. The driver of the Tahoe had been driving recklessly and crossed into oncoming traffic when he crashed into the Prizm, said Sacramento Police Officer Konrad von Schoech.

The Tahoe’s driver fled the scene near Folsom Boulevard and Notre Dame Drive, drove another mile and eventually ditched the SUV near South Watt Avenue and Jackson Road, von Schoech said.
“Investigators are working very hard and diligently to try to locate the suspect, and we believe that an arrest will be made very soon,” von Schoech said.

Ostrow’s death “was another senseless act” to strike the Sacramento Jewish community in the past few months, said Rabbi Reuven Taff of Mosaic Law Congregation. In April, on the first night of Passover, 33-year-old Annette Brodovsky was struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver, as was reported here on Vos Iz Neias.
Ostrow was deeply involved within the Jewish community, especially at the Mosaic Law Congregation in the Arden area. He also was a devoted family man and passed on to his children and grandchildren his love of the arts and music. [sacbee]
