Hey put your self in there position. You are a cop, responding to a report of a stabbing. And you have SOMEONE on your tail, you tell him a few times to back off. What would you do? not teach him a lesson. I know the next poster will say the officers story is false, but if you have common scene, the story makes allot of sense. Always obey the officer on the scene. After all he is the one with the cuffs, if you have issues there is a chain of command you can deal with.

It’s time the “leaders” of these groups made efforts to tame & teach basic civility & mentchlechkeit & ethics to their (our) people.

Years ago in N. Sq. the leaders did teach that but they got edged out by others.

On the other hand, those of u who just hate New Square, don’t you think your Sinas Chinom isn’t helping Moshiach to come???

While there are a few bad cops & maybe a few anti semites by and large most cops are good especially in Ramapo.
They may sometimes profile certain groups that have a large proportion of drug addicts & criminals but they usually treat jews with respect as long as they respect their authority & act like mature civil citizens. If however certain groups act with chutzpah & like vilde chayos they generate animosity & bad will& they will be treated accordingly.

There are enough cases recently where cops either arrested somebody for trump up charges or assulted someone in the name of the law.
Go to you tube and put in police brutality or taser, you will get my point.
I do not trust police anymore. They will hide behind themselves even knowing when they are the guilty party.

The police know the truth by now whether this was warranted or not and they will act accordingly in the future.
I just hope that in case this was as it appears a case of chillul Hashem then the police will not lump all yidden in that catagory.
I know I will be bombarded by commenas that I am a self hating jew & venemous etc etc.
And that this was a thug & idiot cop (see prior comments)
PLEASE do think that the whole world is full of naronim let’s call a spade a spade this guy was a “macher” & got fresh with the police & was rightfully arrested.
This kind of mob behavior & wise guy mentality is a gross chillul hasem period. Let’s hope we don’t all suffer due to this.

What makesit selfhating is just that fact “were you there”. So how can you say bad things about the person who was arrested, or that he is wrong or at fault, etc.
You are jumping to conclusions without any knowledge whatsoever of the facts.

While it makes no difference of Jew or Non-Jew, you have the extra obligation of dan lkaf zechus.
Also remember, if you serve on a jury, the fact that the person was arrested, and is in court defending, does not mean he/she is guilty.
unfortanitly, innocent untill proven guilty, was nowhere to be found in the venoumous comments of some of you.
The person arrested may be wrong, and if so he should pay the consequences, however remember, Dont spout venoum about whole groups of people ( who I may not agree with) without knowledge of the Facts.

The Ramapo PD is probably the most Jewish-Chassisic freindly police force in the world! Everyone knows the community policeman, the sensitivity training their officer are given, etc.

So what do you think will this incident bring for the future?

Wouldn’t it be better handled in a cool way?

So they HAD TO TEACH THAT OFFICER A LESSON! OK, now THEY are the winners!

    What a bunch of LOOSERS!!

For the record: It is not a secret, and several Agudah and other involved Askanim who tried to help, had complain, that if not for those stupid actions of harrasing the investigators with a mike, etc. or running them off the road on Rt. 45, the process would have ended just like many other investigations which took place then in Brooklyn. (with nothing.)

Oh, and the great idea of not taking a plea bargain? I forgot they did not SIT; they were all STANDING the entire time in jail, as the R….. said they will not SIT. Including the one who passed away in jail, and the other four who were saved by Clinton. (the cause of a major Chilul hashem!)

Were you there? Can you say the cop was wrong? Why was the guy near the police officer at all? The cop was called to the house for a reason. Maybe, the cop was right and the resident wrong. \

Or maybe A) like the rest of us he has run into enough power hungry thugs in police uniforms and B)unlike you doesn’t feel like garbage every time he looks in the mirror and sees a yiddisher punim and feel the need to take the cop’s side of every dispute with frum people.

I have traveled ‘a little’ on business and didn’t always wear a yarmulka due to my line of work. I also don’t look particularly Jewish without one. There have been times when I was treated very nicely until they saw the name on my license (it is one of those names).

The police were called about a “knife” at that address. Something was going on inside that house. We don’t know what. The resident arrested tred to stall the officer from entering the house and was arrested when he refused to obey the officer’s order to get out of the way.
Then other community members surrounded the cop car and tried to pull the guy out. Stupid Stupid and more stupid.

An angry group of New Square residents filled the lobby of the Ramapo Police Department for nearly an hour, upset about the arrest a man accused of interfering with an officers’ attempt to investigate a possible stabbing.
By the time the affair was over, the lobby of the station on Route 59 was strewn with empty ginger ale bottles and two boxes of cake, and more than a dozen New Square men walked out with the man they came for, who still faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing governmental administration in New Square Village Court.
No one was injured in any of the confrontations.

According to Ramapo Police Lt. Michael DeMeo, officers were sent to a residence on Washington Avenue in New Square about on a report of a fight in the home and a man with a knife. When officers arrived, they were attempting to get into the home to check out the story when a 30-year-old Bush Lane resident walked up to them.
Information about what happened then is sketchy, but the officers asked the man to leave the entryway and go back to the street several times. He refused and continued to speak to them and kept them from getting into the home, DeMeo said.

The officers arrested the man, handcuffed him and put him in a police cruiser. Police said a crowd had gathered by that time and surrounded the police car, asking why the man was being arrested and protesting his restraint.
By that time, the officers had gotten into the home and found no evidence of a fight, no injured people and no knife.

The officers drove the 30-year-old man to the police station without incident, logging the man into custody at 4:32 p.m. Cars and vans of New Square community members arrived at the police station shortly afterward.
At its largest, about 15 men were in the police station lobby at one time. DeMeo said nobody was yelling or demanding anything, that the crowd appeared to be concerned about the man in custody, and wanting to post his bail.

Several community members met with officers, and arranged to pay the $500 bail for the man. He was released about 7 p.m. and left, as did the other community members.

That was always the problem with New Square: They belive they are above the law!

You cannot simply decide the police should not have arrested someone and try TO PULL HIM FROM THE POLICE CAR!! Or, you will look like Harlem or Washinton Hights! And don’t cry when the papers make you look bad, as you are your own worsed enemies!

Again; This is THE SAME they did ten years ago to the FBI agents, and thought they can somehoe do that. The results was: five in jail and millions spent on lawyers!

PS: But the top commander of the village will insist “ehr Veihst nishet”… (dosn’t know anything.)

OK, so tell them. It doesn’t seem like the guys trying to pull him out of the car were “telling” anybody anything. If the arrest if unwarranted, then you act like a mentch and go down to the station and deal with it there. Now, what do you think the paper is going to say? What does Chillul Hashem mean to you people? What happened to the whole idea of Chillul Hashem. This is a Class A example.

We are our own worst enemy. Arrest means nothing other than a police officer decided to place the Cuffs on someone and claim XYZ. I was recently at a case on 13th avenue where a person loading things into a (double parked) car was arrested because he did not move his car after the police gave him a ticket for double parking, and then told him to move. the charge was “obstructing traffic”. While we all hate double parked cars, the law says you can only be arrested for obstructing traffic if you block all lanes of the street so that no traffic can pass. But the yid was arrested anyway. Taken into 66 pct, and had to go to court.
So Arrest means nothing other than a angry Officer who wants to show hwo is Boss. Stop being a self hater before you know the facts

“the ramapo police do not arrest for “nothing” – they are probaly the slowest police dept in NY to take any kind of action.”

This means NOTHING, police are know to sometimes trup up charges when they need to arrest somebody. The law is very subjective. Just recently in the news there was a guy who was arrested in Times Square (not related to New Square..) because he was standing in the street (at 3am) “blocking” pedestrian traffic. Even the courts flipped the chrges out the window. It’s clear that this idiot cop was looking qith a mgnifiyng glass to find something.

    Shame on such cops.

Police received a 911 hang-up call of a person with a knife. Ershte Hilf responded to assist PD as always – Ershte Hilf has a very good working relationship with Ramapo PD. For whatever reason, this officer went meshuga, and started yelling that they all leave, when they started arguing that they are here to assist him as always, the officer handcuffed one of them. After that everything got out of control and PD decided to take the hand cuffed individual to the station where the captain and the sergeant currently meet with village leaders.

Ramapo police clashed with dozens of residents after arresting a community member.

Residents surrounded a police patrol car, looking to pull the arrested man from the vehicle.

Sheriff’s Department officers went to the village at the request of Ramapo police to assist with crowd control. Apparently, the officers were arresting a local person and for some reason they are trying to pull the guy from a patrol car.
