Police said Yehuda Unger, 30, of 19 Bush Lane, repeatedly refused to obey orders to move out of the way, and so officers handcuffed and arrested him on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing governmental administration.

Putting Unger into a police cruiser created a stir near the village's main synagogue, a gathering place for people to pray and talk, with dozens of people surrounding the patrol car, apparently trying to free him, as was reported first here on Vos Iz Neias.
Additional officers, along with Spring Valley and Sheriff's Department officers, responded, they helped disperse the crowd.

The officers then were able to enter the house, but they found no evidence of a fight, Ramapo police Lt. Michael DeMeo said.
The officers drove Unger to the police station. Shortly afterward, cars and vans of New Square community members arrived at the police station, as community leaders and police discussed the arrest.
DeMeo said that nobody was yelling or demanding anything, and that the crowd appeared to be concerned about the man in custody and wanted to post his bail.

Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence, who has a good relationship with the New Square leadership, said that the police officers did their jobs and were looking to protect the public in New Square.
He said the man arrested acted as if he knew better than the officer how to investigate an incident.
"We have a very professional Police Department, and when they are conducting an investigation, people should not intrude in that investigation," St. Lawrence said. "People should not interject themselves into police business unless asked."

Police said Unger is a member of the village's emergency response team, which looks to work with the police.
Unger was processed at police headquarters and released on $500 bail. He is due Jan. 16 in New Square Village Court on the misdemeanor charge. [journalnews]

So the police are wrong about Unger’s name (not related to the bus company owners) Funny, there are several Yehuda Ungers listed as living in New Square but no Younger. Robert (not his real name, we’re sure) is a funny person..He’s probably Yehuda Unger..

    To Robert C:
Your (original) post speaks for itself for all to see.
Next time think before you write.
    Words once written unlike words
spoken cannot be twisted at will & changed from their obvious meaning.
Let all see this brazen dishonest attempt at changing an obvious simple written statement. I can only try to imagine what it’s like to do business with the likes of the Roberts of this world.

    robert:
Here is what you wrote “DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS COP & THIS ARRESTED UNGAR HAD A LOOOONG HISTORY”
NOW you say “By the way. I did not say he had a looong history. I asked a question. cant you see the question mark, after my statement.”

The question mark is obviously on the question “Did YOU know”. You go on to list a specific case stating “including” that case.

Stop dreing a kop. Do think everyone besides for you are all shoites & can’t read ?
It boggles the mind how krum some people are. At least stand behind your own “written” words or retract them if you want. But there is no way any INTELLIGENT person would understand your statement differently than saying
“This UNGAR had a LOOOONG HISTORY with this cop” read it again in plain english without turning it upside down & inside out. Of course you can say you just made it up & it was a mistake but why all the CAPITAL LETTERS. It seems you were pretty sure of yourself. Be honest.

    You have a point.
Once you establish a “LOOONG HISTORY” with the police you stop being an effective advocate & become an obstacle & source of chillul Hashem as seems to be the case in this episode.
Before arguing with a police officer try to keep in mind that he is not your mikve buddy and maybe you won’t get hauled off to jail.

When are these “machers” going to learn that they are not beyond the law & they must obey a police officer & stop being wise guys.
I appreciate that they hopefully mean well & are trying to be helpful (not just “mach” around)
but if a police officer says “thanks but no thanx” then that is the end of the conversation & it’s time to move aside and let him do his job – period. If this fellow has a “history” then perhaps he is the last one to go & harass the police – let someone else who has a “clean” slate offer their “assistance.

You are so right. A menchleche Yid would simply comply to avoid the Chillul Hashem, then go later that day or the next day and speak to the supervisor making a polite but official complaint, explaining why he felt the situation should have been handled differently.

Even if one is 100% right, the moment he interferes with the Police, he becomes wrong.

    chillul Hashem like usual

Yes. Here are the facts. The police wanted something and the people they serve wanted something else. Guess who is supposed to win? The police!!!! Guess why? Because they take care of us 99% of the time. And if you don’t like something or some situation or feel that it smells dirty, then you act like a Mentch and go down to the station and talk about it. You don’t act like a Bahaima and then go down to the station. You act like a Bahaima, you get treated like one and you cause a tremendous Chillul Hashem as always.

    Robert (not your real name)…
I am sure you will provide evidence of this.. along with the so-called video tape..
And even if it is true (no sane person will believe) Unger had no right to impede the police. He shouldn’t have been there.
    Show us the evidence..

IF it is as you say that “he had a long history with this cop” he should have had a “BISEL” seichel &
kept out of the way – no?

DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS COP & THIS ARRESTED UNGAR HAD A LOOOONG HISTORY. INCLUDING ONCE WHERE THE COP WOULD NOT ALLOW UNGER TO PUT OUT A FIRE ON A DWELLING BECAUSE HE WAS NOT A FIRE FIGHTER, SO HE DID NOT ALLOW HIM TO SPRAY WATER UNTILL THE FIRE DEPT ARRIVED?
SO WE MUST LOOK INTO FACT BEFORE WE TALK
