Thousands of dollars in property damage were done as a result of the
vandalism
Investigators say 21-year-old Marush Wiedzekowski, a Polish national,
will faces charges including a felony hate crime.
Wiedzekowski, who said he is a member of a neo Nazi organization called
NSM88, admitted to defacing nearly 60 tombstones in a Jewish cemetery
early last month.
Officials believe he acted alone when he committed these crimes. Cook
County Sheriff Tom Dart says Mariusz Wdziekonski did what he did to
impress his fellow hate-group members. A wide net was cast trying to solve
this case and it was through the cooperation of the Des Plaines police
department that an arrest was made.
The sheriff’s office now seeks restitution to those graves affected in
addition to any fines and jail time that could result from the charges
against Wiedzekowski. [abc]
