Residents say out-of-state car dealers have been storing cars from their inventory on the streets, causing traffic congestion and inconveniencing residents.

Some of the vehicles have no license plates, but they all have "for sale" signs on them. There are also contact phone numbers on them, but when you try calling these numbers, all you will got is a generic voicemail.

The NYPD says they are aware of the situation, and they have been taking action, including towing and issuing parking summonses. [ny1]

Life must have been so much more simple in the good old days with the horse and buggy. Imagine if nobody would clean up after the horses. we live in a growing city thank you G-d whoever does not enjoy living among us with all the discomfort can move to a less crowded area. Let us try to
do the best we can with whatever and not be so quick in getting someone else in trouble or wanting things to be so very comfortable all the time maybe some of the time
but not all of the time.

As long the car has plates on it and the plates are registered and match to the car its on, nothing can be done.

To solve this problem start going to the NYPD Council Meetings and let the Captain hear whats on your mind.

Note: It is now legal for an individual car owner to have a FOR SALE sign on his car and park it anywhere in a legal space as long as it is his legally registered car. Years ago it wasn’t.

what about on fort hamilton by the cemetery on the way to the prospect, they always take up a lane, I wonder what type of deal they got going with the cops because you always see someone pulled over in this area but these cars never get ticketed

I think that we should have have ‘Zoning’ rules in place. These rules are used in many cities around the world. Basically they state that after a certain hour (7pm, 9pm) only residents of that ‘zone’ can park there. All other vehicles will be ticketed. If this type of rule was put in force you wouldn’t have this problem.

So if guest come to your house in the evening than they should get a ticket ie; mecuhten, chaunka party, purim, vorts etc. are you sick. Do you remember the town of sedom ?

    Forget about them ,
how about the pepole that have driveways and are parking on the street???

In my area there are cars that are parked here for a year or two and never moved. Residents even from Manhattan park their cars in my area because of the No alternate parking rules. 311 is called by many residents and the cars are never ticketed.

    I did something about it.

In my area there was a whole fleet of such cars in the area of Ave F. I called down the police, Dept. of Sanitation and kept up the pressure until things got rolling. The onwer was arrested, some cars were towed away, and some semblance of order was restored.

I was visiting a friend on Foster Avenue near East 5th St., I circled the block 20 times before finding a spot 4 blocks away. There were 12. “12” mini-vans with out of state plates or no plates at all, taking up close parking spots. why don’t the PD do something. It’s Mashuga!

We all agree that it is not right to have these dealers parking on the street. They are also breaking other laws, it is not legal to have a for sale sign on a car because people driving by look and forget to look where they are going.
If you are in business pay rent and don’t block the public streets.

In L.A. they have such a system. Each resident gets 2 “Guest” passes that they can give to visitors to use, and you can get more passes for a specific date for a fee.

These cars will the neon cardboard signs, out of state plates and a cell phone number are unregistered vehicles being sold by unlicensed used car dealers. They are most frequently low end trade-ins purchased in bulk from the new car dealers who don’t deal in such low end cars. If the police really cared they could check the plates via their computer system which links to ther states, verify that the plates and car don’t match and tow. Without proof or title and registration these “dealers” would have a very hard time reclaiming these cars from the impound lot. Once the word gets out, and it would very quickly, this shady bussiness would end.

In kensigton its gotten way out of hand. In this section of brooklyn there are limited driveways, yet these guys park their cars all over the place. There are many ‘body’ shops that park these type of cars while they ‘wait’ for the Ins money.
These guys are there during the day and take the prime spots so that when the working chevra get home there are none.

On the other hand, I always hesitate to give advice to the city as they usually screw up when they implement the rules. (Like ticketing for alt side before the time posted. Only because their machine’s time is used, when they know that the correct time is usually found on their cell phones. It always makes me wonder if they use the small ticket scanner to ‘punch’ in and out each day. Don’t think so.

Boro park also has these problems. It is illegal for a car dealer to park a car that is for sale on a city street. It’s in the code.
