Dr. German Laufer, 61, was caught submitting the claims to three different companies, claiming he performed a nerve-conductor test on as many as nine patients, authorities charged.
The doctor allegedly tried to bilk as much as $20,000 from the HMOs, police sources said.
Laufer has been charged with insurance fraud, falsifying business records and grand larceny. He could face up to seven years in prison if convicted, a spokesman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said. [nypost]
