Israel – In the ongoing saga of the concert-banning issue, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef has drawn a stark contrast with the Rabbonim in American who purportedly signed onto “The Big Event” concert ban, by responding to a question submitted by singer Yaakov Shwekey. The singer, to be participating in an upcoming concert in Israel, faced the same agitation created by activists here, but, Rabbi Yosef wrote in his letter, as long as mingling is clearly prevented and and a clear mechitzah is established, there is no cause for concern, as the event in question is merely a concert to be mesamayach people and convey divrei brachah.

why does this ALWAYS have to come up?

I guarantee you that someone’s belief about the identity of moshiach has nothing to do with who they’re davening to. Enough with these avodah zara accusations. THEY certainly are not bringing Moshiach closer.

I happen to disagree with their conclusion but that doesnt change much else.

I can recall that one year, at his house on Pesach, a well-respected,
senior RY was recounting his miraculous escape from Europe with the Mir
Yeshiva. He was speaking about the fact that the Roshei Yeshiva of the
Mir were against the plan to escape via the Soviet Union – they felt
that it was just too dangerous.
However, the bochrim thought that it was their only hope and decided to
    implement it anyway.

So when the RY got to this point in the story, someone who was there
listening exclaimed, “But how could they do that? Isn’t that against
    “Daas Torah?”

The RY answered, “This was before Daas Torah was invented!” and the
    audience broke out in laughter.

(One must keep in mind that these “bochurim” included people such as R’
Leib Malin, R’ Chaim Visukker, etc who later became known as the Alter
Mirrers. They were geonim in their own right. It’s not as if they were
    young children.)

I’m sure you all get the point….

I’m sorry. This is NOT a chabad- Lubavitch event. It is organized by the Messianic cult claiming to have a connection to the Rebbe.

Hey 2:26, MBD and Shwekey know exactly what they’re getting into. One merely has to read the MBD interview from a couple years back in the Beis Moshiach magazine. Whether or not you agree with the Meshichist platform, please don’t accuse them of lying; these two singers would have to be deaf, dumb, and blind to not know what was going on here.
Not that this should become a debate on the merits of Meshichism, but as is pointed out endlessly by everyone, it’s not so crazy. You don’t like it? Hey, I don’t like Misnagdim, but that doesn’t mean I go around calling them idol worshipers. A little Ahavas Yisrael before Pesach would be appreciated by everyone, even the G-d you think is offended by the Rebbe.

Lipa it is time that you relize that the BAN was against you and you fell into a trap y this idiot Usher Friedman.

Lipa get back to yourself and start thinking of another BIG EVENT! We need one!

Lipa think a minute, This Pesach there are concerts that are mixed and there are no BANS, In Israel there are concerts and there are no BANS, There was a concert a week ago in Brooklyn with worse performers then you and also there were no BANS, LIPA WAKE UP NOW before it is too late.

I agree with monseyer the big event was portrayed as a little over the top of what is expected of. Heimishe. yidden.

Maybe Rav Ovadia paskened re the music and taaruvos sheilos here.

However there is another big problem which should passel this event.

Look at the poster, will see it says the Rebbe SHLITA and ‘yechi adoneinu moreinu virabbeinu melech hamoshiach liolom voed’.

No person with seichel should join in to such avoida zara.

It is a concert for messianic Lubavitchers, not for normal Jews.

    To monsey’er,
I would appreciate you show me where it is Assur to make a buck?
Now, I am not as great as you are, but from what I remember in Yeshiva, there is no Issur, but I stand to be corrected.
Concerning #2 , that is all speculation as the Rabanim did not mention that was the reason, not in the Kol Koreh nor did I see it mention later. Also the organizers claim the opposite.
Why can’t you admit their are different Daas Torah’s to what is allowed?

This event was put together by the wackos who have the chutzpa to call themselves Chabad but do not represent Chabad, but merely their narrow fanatical agenda. It hurts me as Chabad myself to state these facts, but the fact is that they are “terrorists” who want nothng more than attention and legitimacy, just like real terrorists–what they’re really trying to do is say, “see? We’re not crazy fringe lunatics! After all, we got Shwekey and MBD! [Yeah, by LYING to them about what the concert is and who you are].

What really needs to happen is a ban on all such “Chabad” concerts so as to give these “mishhugisten” the non-credibility and marginalization they really need.

Monsey’er – You make it sound like you know what you’re talking about. Get the facts right before you knock other yidden who were hurt – and NOBODY gives a damn. Check with Rabbi Belsky and Rabbi Kaminetsky – not with the hotheads.

    whats the big deal?

R Ovadia Yosef was never against this. Even last year when MBD pulled out of that big Israel show when it was banned and Avremel stayed in Shwekey also stayed in because he said he asked R’ Yosef and he said then also its ok.

This isn’t a chidush. I mean, BH for someone like Rav Ovadia Yosef, but this doesn’t change anything regarding the “daas” Torah problems we have in the USA right now.

Imagine that: in Israel, the rabbis type their letters so they can be read, rather than chicken scratches, on letterhead, no less, with real signatures and seals!

i think the issue wasnt the concerts but the individual who according to many has gone too far in order to please his audiences who wanted a jewish imitation of the goyesha concerts be it dance movements/costumes/ jokes etc which took on a completley diffrent format then weve seen in the past and the rabonim were correct (though the people involved should have been contacted before the rabonim going public whith there ban)

There is a clear distinction between “The big event” and this Chabad concert.

    1. Big event was organized by individuals in the music industry for the purpose to make a nice buck (the tzedakh thing is just part of the marketing strategy) vs. the Israeli event is being organized by an organization with rabbinic authority.

    2. Big event was intended to be an all out hulleles event with no participation of any rabbinic or serious ppl vs. the Chabad thing is a Chasidic Farbrieng with some ehrlicha singers.

    Read the letter:
“Since most of teh event is dedicated to expressing divrei brachah and rememberances of the Rebbe of Chabad.”

In other words, this was not a presented as an inquiry about a concert but a memorial gathering with Rabbanim speaking that will also have Shweky singing.
