Chazy, NY – A man was arrested on a felony warrant as he tried to enter the United States.

Chazy-based State Police reported Jacob F., 26, of Monsey was arrested as he tried to enter the United States at the Champlain port of entry on Interstate 87.
He is wanted by New Jersey authorities for allegedly stealing a car and is being held in Clinton County Jail without bail until he can be extradited.

In respond to the accusations, some people in the know told VIN News that “on August 8, 2008 Jacob rented an automobile from Avis. A copy of the rental agreement was attached as an Exhibit.
The car was to be returned on Thursday October 28th, 2008. Prior to that time Jacob called Avis and told them that he had changed his plans and he therefore needed the car for a few more days.
On Friday October 31, 2008 the car was returned to Avis in Nanuet after closing and on Nov. 2, Jacob’s friend obtained the receipt. The charges were put on Jacob’s credit card.
But apparently, unknown to Jacob, Avis lodged charges against him and he was arrested coming back into the United States from Canada.
He is currently in custody pending extradition from Clinton County Correctional Facility. But Jacob committed no crime and paid in full for his rental. We would ask that Englewood City Court withdraw the warrant and allow Jacob to come to court by himself to rectify this matter.”

We live in such a third world country where no one trusts anyone. You have to get people’s name whenever you talk by phone to someone. It happened to me enough times and helped me when they denied it later.

Right 10:39. We rented from a yid, got arrested for 5 violations- the car was unregistered, uninsured, plates were from another car and 2 other violations. We paid bitterly in lawyers fees, and got nothing but mafia threats from the “yid”.
DO NOT RENT FROM YIDDEN just because they are yidden, rent from LEGITIMATE car rental companies.
I rented from Avis in Nanuet once, and would never rent from them again. They are the most obnoxious car rental agency around. The only reason I went there in the first place is because it was a weekend, and they were the only ones open. I would rather use public transportation, before renting from them again.
I can understand that happening. I once rented a car, and was stopped by the police for an expired tag. The officer did not ticket me, as he realized it was a rental car, but told me to park it, and notify the rental company where it is, and take a cab to the airport, and mail the keys to the office from where I rented it.
I did just that.
I notified the rental company via telephone, and via follow up email, directly to the agent/office who rented me the car and mailed the keys. He said he would take care of it, and apologized.
3 months later, I discover a giant charge on my credit card for daily rental for over 2 months that I did not have the car. They never picked the car up, and reported the car never returned. The rental company said that office was now closed, and the employees terminated. I had to travel back to the state and town where I left the car, and asked an officer to follow me as I had the car towed to their nearest open office.
They dropped the criminal charges, but never cleared my credit. I refused to pay the $4,000+ credit card bill, and my credit is still hurt by it. The bank decided the rental company was right, even though the terminated employee signed MY name on a renewal contract!
Now, I rent from Hertz only.
Sorry, I tried a “Heimishe” company when visiting NY, only to have them “authorize” an extra $1,000 on my credit card. I then did not have the available credit to do what I came to NY to do. It totally ruined my trip. They said they could not reverse the authorization, but that it would disappear after a few days. My visit was to be a one-day visit. It was for nothing. Sorry, Hertz from now on… (smile)
But, I can really understand how a person can get messed up like this guy.

does anybody know if jacob needs tefillin or kosher food. i visit jails every so often over the boarder.
Unfortunate, but I’m sure there is more to the story.
You have to watch these companies with eyes around your head. But as others have suggested, document, document and document again. You should also red your rental agreement carefully. These mamzeirim will try to clip you for everything. Make sure you make the guard or yard guy inspect every part of the car before you drive off.
Hertz, while the most expensive, is very good. That’s what my friends who travel a lot say. I actually prefer Enterprise, but they are clsoed on Sundays and their system, at least it used to, shuts off at 11:59 PM.

Awhile ago I posted a story of a rebbe of mine who was never impressed with a sign on a repair shop or other business that said Shomer Shabbat. He would say: “I’m glad you keep Shabbat. But are you Shomer Shabbat with your pricing and honesty?”
Anyone who has the information for this AVIS car rental location should please post it. Also, does anyone know who was the one filling the charges, the rental location or Avis headquarters?
I was a heavy renter for a lomg while, my most pleasant experience was “only” with heimishe rentals! although they never had any luxury cars to offer, they always had the car I reserved, best prices, easiest terms and conditions! facto.
at Enterprise they were also very nice, but very expensive (accordingly), and I hardly got the car I reserved.
to top it off, I once rented an SUV from a major (goysha) rental to use it for long distance, I was told I’ll get free mileage, to my dismay, when I returned the vehicle I was hit with over 100 dolllars in mileage.. after arguing and begging, I was credited 20 bucks..
when I rented a car for 3 days at a major rental in Englewood NJ, I ended up paying for 4 days instead of 3, I called back, and they admitted it was a mistake, and promised to credit the charge, “but please don’t dispute the charges with the credit card co.” after a run around I’m still waiting for the credit.
at the yiddishe rentals I never had an issue about scratches or dents, at the major ones I did.
to rent from the heimishe is the worst.but the heimishe chalah are not bad
I also rented a lot from heimishe rentals, sometimes the cars were awful, but I knew what I was taking, i was looking to pay less.. but my overall experience with the heimishe was much better than the national ones.

enterprise, i would advise rent 
their airport locations (its about the same price when using a corp. acct #) 1) you’ll find a much bigger selection of cars (not only PT Crusiers…) 2) they wont make you a hard time about dents & scratches etc. & Regarding to this story, i dont think it would happened

enterprise. I had a reservation from enterprise, only to show up with no more cars. They upgraded me to an SUV not telling me my credit card insurance doesn’t cover SUV rentals (All CC cover cars, except AMEX). After someone hit me from behind and ran away (Rear bumper fell off) I thought all was well. Upon return they made me pay full price for the bumper (over $1000) non negotiable since my credit card refused to pay since it was an SUV. Enterprise are “GANOVIM” and you will get burnt by them one day. Wait till they charge you for the small scratches!!
