New York – New Yorkers received a shock this morning when a ‘special edition’ of their newspaper of record, the New York Times, displayed the screaming headline ‘IRAQ WAR ENDS.’

Oh, and America’s other problems were well on the way to being solved too, from energy and health care to the sagging economy.
That’s according to a spoof edition of The New York Times, dated July 4, 2009.
Some 1.2 million copies of the fake 14-page newspaper were handed out during morning rush hour by dozens of volunteers liberal pranksters who call themselves the Yes Men.
The parody paper also announces the abolition of corporate lobbying and a maximum wage for CEOs. And there’s a recall notice for all cars that run on gasoline.
The group, which was the subject of a 2004 documentary, have conducted pranks around the world, in one case appearing on the BBC as a Dow Chemical spokesman to announce a $12bn payout to the victims of the Bhopal disaster.
Other ‘victims’ have included the WTO, New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin and ExxonMobil.
A call and e-mail to The New York Times weren’t immediately returned.
fake website, too:
http://www.nytimes-se.com/
the fake paper is almost as liberal as the real NY times
Considering they make up the news or make it fit their agenda, this could have gone over everyone without anyone knowing any better.
can’t they be arrested for infringement
Could you imagine the jewish press with a prank paper? It would read: Yated and the jewish press have merged and our first headline is:
Arabs want to blow up all yeshivishe mosdos!!
Then the hamodia merges with the jewish week and the headline is: Modern orthodox gerrer rebbe is the greatest thinker of all time!!
Just laugh even you yoily voilu shmoily. Don’t reply even if have something to say!!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds like the gerers are up to more trouble even in the USA sorry litzman has no power here
how much did this prank cost them?
I got it & I’m wondering what’s so funny it is the same as the regular NYT
I love these guys. As with The Onion, some of what they do is more silly than didactic, but the majority of the scams that they’ve pulled off are biting in their criticism of cruelty and I applaud them enthusiastically.

The real NY Slimes will be out of business soon. They, like the other liberal rags, are hurting big time. But in a way we need them alive, otherwise we’ll bail them out too.
There was a “Not the New York Times” parody done about 25 years ago. I vaguely recall a front page story of the Queensborough Bridge falling into the Hudson River as a result of the stress caused by the runners in the New York Marathon.
