The initiative behind the mikve, which will be located in the capital city of Colombo, belongs to local Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries Talia and Rabbi Mendi Crombie.

The Crombies have been living in Sri Lanka since November 2005, when they opened a Chabad house there to serve both visiting Jewish tourists and local businessmen.

“There are a number of Jewish families living in the capital of Colombo, most of whom are either businessmen or the employees of foreign embassies,” Crombie told The Jerusalem Post.

“In the past, women who observe the laws of Jewish family purity had to travel more than three hours by plane to Bangkok, Thailand in order to use a mikve,” he said. The construction work is being carried out by a local Sri Lankan contractor under the close supervision of an Israeli rabbi to ensure that the mikve meets the requirements of Jewish law.

“On the same day that we began the work, the civil war in the country ended,” Crombie noted.

The second stage of the project calls for the construction of a building to house the mikve which will also contain dressing rooms, bathrooms and showers.

Crombie said he believed the mikve would begin to operate once the monsoon season is over, when it will be possible to fill it with fresh rainwater.

“Judaism attributes great value to the building of a mikve,” he noted, adding that, “it ensures the continued existence in purity of the Jewish people.”

Before the loonies start commenting on the above picture, saying it’s not kosher for a mikvah because its bricks with gaps and spaces and leaks and not one complete vessle, step back and take a breath. This is an OUTER cradle into which a new cement pour will create a monolithic mikveh inside those walls. Chill..

I think it’s hypocritical to waste money on mikvahs in the remotest places when there are plenty of small towns in the US where Jews live where Chabad won’t go because they cannot be assured of local funding. I guess places like Shri Lanka have more PR value.

how many Jews live in Bose?
Why all the hate? If you think that other places need a mikvah, who is stopping you from leaving BP etc. and build?

Isn’t the fact that the Chabad shliach’s wife alone gets to use the mikvah–instead of every monthshlepping 3 hours each way by plane, and probably leaving other kids behind, disrupting her whole week–enough and worth it?

As you can see the Rebbe Rashab and the Chofetz Chaim were right that in ikvisa dimishicha there will be FRUM YIDDEN who will mock those who are trying to bring more kedusha into the world to bring Moshiach, interesting how they both said the same thing in different words, the Chofetz Chaim said the whole parsha of Sara being accused of laughing refers to the frume yidden at the end of Golus who will laugh at those who have true emunah in Bias Hamoshiach (as is evident in their mesiras nefesh for klal Yisroel even for nidchei yisroel with the intention that “yisroel osin tshuva umiyad hen nigolin”) and Hashem is referring to these yidden and says “Lo ki tzochocht!”

As well, the Rebbe Rashab said in his famous Sicha that “Asher Cheirfu Ikvos Mishichecho” refers to chareidishe yidden just prior to the geulah who will poke fun at those who will be steadfast in the emunah of Bias Hamoshiach.

Can you believe there exists such sinas yisroel that these people cannot rest for a moment without constantly bickering and criticizing yidden who leave the comforts of the Boro Park lifestyle, why, because they are interested in assisting a few freia yidden in a remote place so they can come close to Avinu Shaboshomayim

    And for this they criticize?!

Not a chiddush they criticized lubavitch in Mumbai too before they became (acharei mos) kedoshim.

But these people convince themselves in the name of “Daas Torah” they are doing the right thing, after all they have upon whom to be somech, oso ish haniftar mibnei brak who was solal es haderech with sinas chinom, so I guess eilu hatzon ma chotu

But my point is very simple if the gemora says the churban happened due to sinas chinom can we not use our own brains to make a change in this generation that at least when something good is being reported (rare unfort.) that one need not davka bring negative and loshon hora
to such good news and cause this “traditional cycle of divsion” to foster

    Ribono She’ll Olam Ad Mosai?!
