It’s part of an increase in the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the area this year, police said.

In a typical summer, two or three swastikas have to be removed, police said. This year, there have been 14 incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti already, said police Cmdr. Sylvain Bissonette.

“Here in Côte Saint-Luc, you’ve got the largest group of survivors of the Holocaust that is living in North America,” Bissonette said.
“This not just a thing that happens that we see in films, but it is a reality,” he said.

Bissonette said the swastikas were quickly erased by city workers. He is asking for the public to help in identifying the vandals.

i grew up in cote st luc, the kids that do these things are so bored, they roam around the streets all day and night with nothing to do (in the summertime) it’s a sick way for them to scream for attention.

and btw, the cops don’t care at all, they won’t investigate it, they won’t patrol around the areas looking for kids who are spray painting, they are very indifferent and that’ why the kids get away with it.

Well today there’s cameras all over the place. If it does’t yield any results, just add more, until it’s justified that all is covered; just like Square Yeshiva.

For those that don’t know cote saint luc probably has the densest Jewish population in all of Montréal. Close to 75-80% of 30000 people consists of traditional, modern orthodox and Sephardic Jews with a growing population. The Jewish shuls and day schools are thriving and this is sad that incidence like this are occurring.
