U.S. pop superstar Madonna, long blond hair with black cap, is accompanied by friends, visits the tomb of Jewish mystic Rabbi Isaac Luria in Safed, northern Israel, Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009.Jerusalem – Pop music icon Madonna, who took Israel by storm earlier this week with two back-to-back concerts in Tel Aviv, wrapped up her tour with a visit Thursday night to the Safed tomb of a kabbalistic great.

Rabbi Isaac Luri – or the Ari – was one of the founders of kabbalism, a tradition Madonna has embraced over the last few years.

Pilgrims flock year round to his grave and the neighboring ritual bath at the foot of the ancient northern city.

Madonna was accompanied in her visit by Rabbi Michael Berg, her own rabbi’s brother, as well as her partner Jesus. At the site, she sang the Sabbath song “Lecha Dodi,” ringing in with a kabbalistic tune.

During her visit, the material girl has paid tribute to Jerusalem’s Old City, where she toured an ancient tunnel near the Western Wall – the holiest site where Jews can pray.

Madonna isn’t Jewish, but she’s a follower of Jewish mysticism and has even taken the Hebrew name Esther.

She arrived early Sunday for a pair of concerts in Tel Aviv this week. It was be her first performance in Israel since 1993, though she came on private pilgrimages in 2004 and 2007.

Madonna is also set to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday.

Wouldnt it be a wonderif she converted to Orthodox Judaism and brought thousands of followers with her? That would really signal Ikvisa D’meshicha.

It was a real kovod to the memory of the Ari to have a world famous artist such as Madonna sing l’cha dodi by his kever. The few fortunate yiddin who were at the kever at the time will remember this moment for a lifetime.

blah blah blah. so she went to the gravesite.. she is not the most perfect person.. I know I am not to good and I go to krevers for help. everyone is allowed to pray no one sees wats in her soul. how can anyone judge her. the high hoildays are coming up and I am happy none of u (above posters) are not judging me. everyone has a spark in them.. don’t b so fast to judge.. so her style in life is different.. she’s not sitting in brklyn telling u to look at her or listen to her..

I wouldn’t be surprised (and I suspect ) that she is Jewish.
We yidden believe in hashgacha pratis, divine providence. Interestingly the holy composer of Lecha Dodi rests about four graves from the Ari Hakadosh.

Anyone who thinks that this is a kavod in any way and doesn’t hurt from reading this story is far – very far. There is only one way to get close. Find someone who will learn Torah with you – anything. mussar, chumash, navi, mishna, gemara, aggada, halacha, etc. but it must be something that works with your particular learning strength. Do it. Stop Waiting. There are so many people who would learn with you if only you asked them.

Modana is in Kabala, and she is calling her self “Esther” in Hebrew

One of the biggest scientists of all time Isaac Newton (who was not Jewish) studied a lot of Kabala.

there is so much hate on this article. relax everyone she isn’t Jewish but shes allowed to be interested in mysticism shes not about to convert so there’s no halachos shes obligated to follow. out of all people in this world madonna treats Judaism with respect and honor and its a shame on whoever posted nasty, slanderous and hurtful comments on this blog. it should be equal to lashon hora at its absolute worst.

All I can see that this is a wake-up call! Even someone as succesful and popular as Madonna – sees herself as an emty wastful life without any spirituallity which she fulfills via kabbala without that she feels her life as meaningless as ever! The moral of the message in Elul is; Ashrenu Ma Tov Chalkenu! and wee shall all focus on strenghting our rightful given Torah at least with the same “hislahavot” (le’havdol)as she does!!

There are plenty goyim who come and daven at the Tzion of the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZT”L. I did not see anyone condemn or put a stop to this. Also, in Iraq the arabs go and pray at the our neviim’ tzionim. What is the whole todo? The only thing she should have kept her mouth shot, and not one comment would have come.

Why are you people so bitter and excited about this? The woman is genuinely moved by Jewish ideas and this is how she expresses it. Maybe you don’t agree with her, but I see nice things here, not a cause for such hysteria that I am reading on this blog. There is something hypocritical about it. It’s not very nice.

I dont understand what the big deal is, jews who daven say on the sholosh regalim in mussaf “ki baysi beis tefilla yikoray l’chol haamim” EVERYONE jew and gentile is welcome to daven in hakodosh barchu’s house, so surely they are all welcome to come and pray at a grave. And since when are all you complainers, such authorities to be judge and jury and decide what is or isnt an appropriate tefilla?
