There’s an effort being driven to literally turn New York City green, due to the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the U.N. General Assembly.
Iranian activists campaigned to have the Empire State Building light up green to protest his speech, but they were refused — green is the color of Mr. Ahmadinejad’s opposition and the recent protests that broke out around disputed election results.
In addition to the Empire State Building, protesters will form a mile long green banner across the Brooklyn Bridge and are asking that homes and businesses light their windows with green lights.
why is everyone so obsessed with this guy? in his iran he has as much power as the dog catcher!! he has NO power in iran, he is simply a mouthpiece. ahmendinajad cannot declare war let alone start nuclear projects. meanwhile, iran IS a constitutional democracy that protects all its citizens. that is why over 20,000 jews still live there. is makes me suspicious to think that america and israel are gung ho on bombing this country. does it have to do with oil? probably. NO WAR WITH IRAN!!!!
The building will be lit in green on Thursday anyway for something much more important: the “Wizard Of Oz’s 70th Anniversary Emerald Gala.”
If you noticed it was green two nights ago too, for Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan. Great. So it’s green Sunday, and green Thursday, but dammit, better send in the lackeys to change it back to white (which they call “ESB lighting”) for the three days in between. Glad to see they’ve got their priorites straight over there.
by making the “empire state building” (a sky scraper-tallest building in the city) green they are just asking for another plane to “land” in it. not so smart….
Maybe Abe should wear his green Hermes tie (OU meeting with prez reported here at VIN last week) to show his protest of that Iranian mad-man
Ahmed from Iran thought it was Saint Patrick’s Day in September.
Isnt green a very Yishmaeli color?????
