“Besides the danger of importing plan disease along with the [Egyptian] lulavs, we should encourage consumers to buy Israeli in this area as well,” Rappel explained.
The branches of the lulav are grown primarily on kibbutzim (cooperative communities) in eastern Israel. Israelis are expected to purchase approximately 600,000 lulavs in advance of this years Sukkot holiday; prices will range from seven shekels to 67 shekels.

I agree, and we should only buy
– Israeli made apples
– Israeli made carrots
– Israeli made spinach.
But washing machines grown in China are OK, and also Japanese grown cars.
What is “Plan Disease”?
Wouldn’t a boycott of lulavim from Egypt violate Israel’s trade agreements with Egypt that provide for free and open exchange of goods and services. Unless there is some verifiable plant disease concerns, this would not be good policy since EY sells more to Egypt than it buys.
