Queens, NY – A nineteen year old boy falsely called in a report that his father had shot one of his brothers and was holed up on the third floor of the building now known as Dee’s Day Care Center in Queens outside of an Elementary School Yeshiva.

The man claimed the gunman was occupying the former Sh’or Yoshuv Yeshiva building on Central Avenue in Far Rockaway, New York. After heavy police presence and further investigation it turned out the claim was false.
The Yeshiva located across the street called parents and informed them about the situation. Dismissal was occurring around the corner of the building in a safe location.
The administrator and Rosh Yeshiva were on the scene at the dismissal, coordinating everything with the police department. One observer described the dismissal, “The way that this Yeshiva handled the crisis is remarkable – the care and concern for each student and the professionalism here is a model for any school.”
The Yeshiva called Siach Yitzchok is known as the Cheder of the Far Rockaway community. Yeshiva Sh’or Yoshuv moved a few years ago to the Far Rockaway/Lawrence border on 878.
I am davening for a safe resolution. May HKBH protect the innocent talmidim and the Rebbeim and staff. Amen !
B”H there was no casulties. C”V.
This should serve as a wake up to all yeshivas. The potential skunah is real!!! We have a chiyuv to our kinderlach to protect them to the best of our ability, which which means cameras and gaurds by EVERY entrance.
I just called the secretary of the school. She said there was some police activity earlier but everything was fine. I don’t think the kids were let out early. In either case, I don’t think the hostage, if there was one, is connected with the cheder in any way.
This is another great Yeshivah. The menhal is a great person who actually really truly cares about every Talmid in the yeshivah and goes out of his way to assist others that are not in the yeshivah.
thank G-d it was false and everyone is safe!
did the above commenter s read the article IT WAS A FALSE ALARM.
The boy who did could be in serious trouble calling in a false alarm is a crime.
In addition he cost the tax payers money and tied up vital resources. Luckily there was nothing else happening. However if there was someone could have been hurt because of his actions.
The yeshiva should be commented the way they evacuated the building. maybe they should give lesson to other yeshivas.
Now the yeshiva must explain to the boys the seriousness of false alarms..
I am making an educated guess that the boy was frum since vin did not provide a name
Siach Yitzchok’s talmidim are the envy of many Yeshivos all around NY, not just Far Rock & The 5-Towns. This is truly a hidden gem in the Yeshiva Ktana world and its graduates have mastered all the top-Mesiftas and Bais Medrash in Eretz Yisroel & the States.
Response to #6 .
There is no reason to assume that the caller had any connection to the yeshiva, or the community. The incident, and subsequent police activity took place directly across the street from Siach Yitzchok, but had nothing to do with the school itself!
I was there to pick up a child, and in spite of heavy police activity, including a helicopter and hostage negotiation unit, the atmosphere in the school was calm. Thanks to the staff who kept the boys relaxed while waiting for parents who were delayed due to the closed streets.
The good news is that the lunatic who phoned in this false report is over 18 years old and is being charged as an adult. Hopefully, a long prison sentence will deter others from playing this game which could have had tragic consequences.
when i was a child i use to do this allot – now i feel stupid.
Unfortunately parts of Far Rockaway are inhabited by very dangereous criminals. Yidden who insist on living there need to take proper security precautions. There have even been cases of home invasions in Far Rockaway into frum homes by these savages.
