The Sand Hill are seeking “re-establishment of a land base for the ribe, dederal as well as international recognition as a sovereign people, and back renumeration for the use of natural resources and assets that were taken illegally,” Sand Hill Government Liaison Laura I. Zucker told NBCNewYork in an emailed statement.

Sand Hill Chief Ronald Holloway filed the first lawsuit in 2009 against the State of New Jersey,  charging then-Governor Corzine and members of the state administration with “violation of human rights, genocide, and breaking of treaties etc.” according to the press release.

On April 20, Holloway appeared before the United Nations, accusing the federal courts of “deliberate stalling,” wrote Zucker.  “The UN has agreed to review the case to see if it can go to the Hague,” she wrote, but they have not confirmed whether or not it will go.

This week, Holloway filed a motion amending the first to include claims on Manhattan and parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware as well as New Jersey.

When the Lenape Indians–of which Sand Hill are a subset–signed deeds with English colonizers in the 17th and 18th centuries, the motion argues, they “did not have any understanding of the concept of buying and selling land” and therefore “when the Lenape Indians signed numerous deeds, they believed they were granting to the Europeans a right to share the land, with no intention of excluding themselves from continuing to use the land.”

“The original homeland of the Lenape Indians (also called Delaware Indians), originally encompassed New York (Manhattan and Hudson areas), and the States of Delaware, New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. Plaintiffs’ ancestors originally called these lands “Lenape’hokink” (which means Land of Lenape). Plaintiffs’ ancestors inhabited these lands for thousands of years,” the motion reads.

Sorry – get in line, guys. Maybe if you start calling these eastern seaboard interlopers “Sons of Apes and Pigs”, the New Nazis and so on — oh, and start a terror campaign — you might be able to drum up some European and even domestic support. I wouldn’t count on the UN though — they’ve got their hands dirty — uh, I mean full — with a similar group of victims of oppression across the pond.

Why does this sound familiar… Maybe they should start firing rockets onto the US and then ask the US not to shoot back at them, just like the terrorists in Gaza.

Manhattan translates to island of hills in the Lenape language. Tel Aviv translates to hill of the spring in Hebrew!!! Manhattan is an illegal Jewish settlement!!! A population transfere is needed all northeast Jews to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Hebron, indeed to Arab occupied Amman,Irbul,Aquaba,Gaza,Rafiah, etc.

I just learned that Ronald Yonagaska Holloway is actually Jewish!!! The New Jersey Jewish Standard has an online article about the chairmen of the Lenape-Chrokee band of American Indians!! I’m sure that Laura Zucker also is Jewish!!! The State of Israel & Eretz Yisrael may be able to form a federation here!!!

I’m surprised it took centuries for someone to finally file a law suit. I was doing legal research in college on land purchases from Indians by the colonists and the deeds were in fact illegal because the selling party did not understand the English law when they sold Manhattan. Native Americans did not have the concept of private property or relinquishing tribal land for money. The Colonists tricked them into believing that the land would be shared, thus the contract was never legal. I hope some courts will acknowledge this illegal purchase and theft of property.

I have to check if Boro Park was also a stolen former Native American land.

There should be a 2 state solution. We should divide up the US and give the indians back their land.
We can start with Dividing up manhattan. Maybe 1st ave -5th avenue for the Indian tribes and the west side of manahttan 6th and on can stay american, After all Avenue of the Americas is on that side.
Just like The world demand of Israel.

While we’re at it we should do this for every country. Lets examine recent (last few hundred years) occupations of land and revert history.

I doubt if the lawsuit(s) will be successful at this late stage, as the parties which were involved cannot be deposed. Incidentally, June 25, will be the 134th anniversary of the defeat of General George Armstrong Custer at the battle of the Little Big Horn, in Montana (1876). Custer was another example of the arrogant attitude of the U.S. Cavalry, which considered the Native American Indians as “savages”. Custer was extremely reckless, when he entered Sioux territory in Montana with only 700 men, which he split into three units. He was surrounded by thousands of Sioux Warriors, under Chief Sitting Bull, who wiped his entire unit out. In 1951, there were some Sioux survivors of that battle, who were at that time in their 90’s. They displayed various artifacts of the battle. Unfortunately, this is what happens when nations think that a military solution, is the only answer to a political problem.

I’m surprised there isn’t more support for this law suit on this site. We (Jews in Israel) are the Natives, and the vast majority of us would be living in our ancestral homeland were it not for the occupation of our land by European (Greek, Roman) imperialists who eventually drove us out by the sword. Our moral and legal right to return to Eretz Yisrael is based, at least partially, on Israel being our homeland to which we have forever strived to return. How to mediate between the ancient owners of a piece of land (from whom it was stolen) and the current owners is a different question. But fundamentally we should support the efforts of nations to reclaim their homeland, be it in Kurdistan, Tibet, or Manhattan.
