Brooklyn, NY – Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) is alerting the community about the dissemination of a missionary paperback book entitled, Ten Amazing Jews: They Thought for Themselves currently being mailed to teenage residents throughout Boro Park. For wider distribution, free copies of the book are also being dropped off at various shuls in Boro Park. According to several reports, the mailings come in an unremarkable white envelope with an accompanying letter.

“To an unsuspecting teenager, this book seems like a very interesting and nicely-presented piece of literature,” Hikind noted. “Who wouldn’t want to read inspiring stories about ten amazing Jews? This kind of misleading propaganda intended to proselytize Jews makes me absolutely sick.”
Ten Amazing Jews features stories called Yiddishkeit, The Survivor, and Bat Shalom: Daughter of Zion intended to deceive innocent teens. The book also uses the term ruach hakodesh and quotes from Tanach and Rambam’s Yud-Gimmel Ikarim.
“If the strategy of utilizing familiar language and referencing our holy texts didn’t work, the missionaries wouldn’t use it,” said Hikind. “We must beat them at their own game by being vigilant and ensuring this book does not fall into the hands of our children.”
I got one in the mail.
“ruach kodesh”?? How dare they hijack our loshon kodesh for their avodah zara!!
Got the book 3 weeks ago. Thinking it would be a good idea to send a bag of poop back as a thank you
I got this book 2 weeks agow in the mail threw it out right away garbage. But I like the idea of giving it away free Artscroll should do something like that as promotion
I received this book. It was a pathetic, thinly veiled attempt to persuade the reader. I threw it in the trash (recycling) about thirty seconds into it.
I live in Central Jersey and I got this as well as my in laws who live in a neighboring county. somebody got their hands on Jewish mailing lists.
We should keep these books and have a mass book burning rally against them, outside the missionary’s headquarters.
who cares. give me a break. just throw it away. big deal.
I got it too, it came to a bunch of people here in queens, not only to homes with teenagers
They thought for themselves and look where it brought them-that’s all you have to tell kids who stumble across this book. Show your kids u love them and care for their souls more than these liberal ignoramuses. Love them back to want to visit Israel and our patriarchs and matriarchs.
while i appreciate reb dov’s hishtadlus, i would question the appropiateness of using his political office for this – we are fortunaate to enjoy the separation of church and state for a reason.
Dov Hikind does it again. every time something is needed for klal yisroel, there he is! keep up the great work, dov!!!
“We must beat them at their own game by being vigilant and ensuring this book does not fall into the hands of our children.”
I’m sorry but the way to beat them is to spread the truth and beauty of the yiddishkeit that WE have. Getting rid of these books is only a bandaid without treating the infection.
How many of our youth are frustrated with themselves and with their lives because no one ever bothered to tell them what yidishkeit is all about in an OPEN and honest way.
Of course they will read this treife book- they are searching for something and unless we “beat them at their own game” by being aware of where our boys and girls are really holding (even in the best Yeshivos) we WILL LOSE!!!
I got it in williamsburg too.
I am always getting this scheisse in my P.O. box.
this is exactly why shuls and organizations must be very carefu to NEVER EVER give out their lists to anybody!!!!!
I think this can be a learning experience for all of us. We are not doing enough to reach out to unaffiliated Jews. We should follow their tactics and strategy and do mass mailings of a provocative and appealing looking book so that disengaged Jews can learn more about Judaism. I know of an excellent book that can work the magic and I can arrange with a benefactor to subsidize some of the costs. If anyone out there has the means to partner up to subsidize the shipping/mailing fees and some of the book costs please email me at [email protected].
I didnt realize that it was Missionary material at first. The first story is a poor attempt at convincing the reader to consider another faith. Because one crippled guy watched a TV program and a preacher said something over the tv, that he connected as a message meant for him, and shortly after the person got healed- one miraculous case out of millions of believers in that faith who dont get healed? Gimme a break.
one of the stories is about holocaust survivor who finds Xrist. very sick.
Mark “RETURN TO SENDER” and put it back in the mail. Of course you should tear the cover off and write messages on the pages so it cannot be used again !!! They will be charged postage and they will get the message that they are not fooling anyone.
5 minutes into the book, my husband threw it into the garbage….The cover could have fooled even the saviest amopng us; How did they get a hold of shul lists; I live in Madison….we all got it.
Everyone should be aware that the Chosen People Ministries are trying to raise $7 million in order to purchase a building on Coney Island between P & Quentin. The plan is to make a community center which will target the orthodox community specifically and convert people to Messianic Judaism. They are currently located on East 18th between Kings Highway and Quentin but will expand their operation ten fold.
The first hint that something isn’t kosher with this book is that it’s mailed from Brunswick, GA; how many Jews do you know that live in Brunswick, GA? Second hint is that it’s mailed unsolicited and there isn’t a solicitation envelope enclosed; how many legitimate Jewish organizations do you know that will send you a book without also enclosing an envelope?
The author is a misguided meshumad. He is obsessed with trying to convert Jews to his beliefs, claiming he was inspired by a dream. He has a syndicated radio program that’s heard on christian radio stations, mainly in the bible belt states. Gets his money from mainstream churches and from radio solicitations. I put him in the same category as other obsessed nut cases that act out on dreams.
I got one last week, and it seemed like a book which I was warned about. I gave it the three-second test. 3 quick glances at 3 different pages confirmed my fears. I took the trouble to SHRED it and put it straight into my recycling bag. maybe its author would like to look for it!
Good idea to fill up the envelope with poop and send it back in the same envelope as a thank you
If they send a book about poop they will get from me the real thing
The book was sent to my home in Fresh Meadows, Queens about 2 weeks ago. There are no children residing here so we can see that the missionaries have not singled out Brooklyn youth as their target. All Jews everywhere need to know about the book and the goal behind its dissemination. I browsed through it and found it to be easily misleading. It is not a book to be retained in a Jewish home.
These missionaries have lots and lots of money. A few years ago another missionary group sent a CD Movie about Yushka Pundrick to Jewish households in Monsey and Spring Valley. They probably bought Dunn and Bradstreet lists because it is unlikely that Yeshivas or shuls would sell they’re mailing lists to dubious users. I am appalled at this full frontal assault on orthodox Jews and have often thought of respondong in kind. i don’t have the money, nor would I throw it away on a direct mailing, but I am tempted to publish the Jewish version of those events as recorded by Yushka’s Jewish contemporaries and place it on the web. It won’t be pretty. As for me? I’m willing to debate any missionary on two conditions.
1) The debate must be in Hebrew. A missionary would be hard pressed to tell me what my bible says when he’s reading an English Translation of a Latin translation of a Greek translation of a bastardized Hebrew translation and I’m reading the original Hebrew taught to me in an unbroken chain that I can trace back to Moshe Rabbainu.
2) The material can’t include any of the question asked by the meshumadim that debated the rishonim and got their butts kicked. It’s old news.
Below is the VIN link for warning about the missionary movie referred to in the above post.

The movie was sent by a missionary organization called Campus Crusade for (guess who?) It has been translated into over a thousand languages including Hebrew and Yiddish. They claim the film in all it’s forms has had 6 Billion viewings.
The films main distributors are based in Orlando Florida.
Maybe we should also pass on to Al Quaida that the film has been translated into 12 Arabic Dialects and Farsi? I wonder who they’re trying to proselytize?
2 things bother me here:
1. Where did they get the mailing lists to send these things?
2. In case anyone read these and is confused, read the UNCENSORED Sanhedrin to see why oso haish was put to death, who defended him on his way to the execution, who didn’t, and why he didn’t attempt to do tshuvah after he sinned.
Its not in Artscroll, but the Vishinantem and Oz vHadar shas have it
Funny thing about these people is that they are targeting Jews first. They believe many of their fellow Xtians are lost also, but they don’t write books and target their mailing to the members of St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox church; you would think they would have better luck with people who are already half way there.
i got it in Monsey about a month ago.
