Coney Island, NY – A small coffee break turned into a life-saving mission for two Brooklyn paramedics on Aug. 24, when they discovered dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) in a local eatery.

Paramedic Nadra Bleli from Station 43 wanted a cup of coffee during her break, so she and her partner, Paramedic Michael Toomey, stopped by Dunkin Donuts on Coney Island Avenue near Avenue U.

As soon as she walked in the door, the CO meter on her belt signaled levels of 188 ppm in the store. Unsure if her meter was malfunctioning or the high reading was accurate, she asked her partner to join her in the store.

When his meter also read dangerously high levels, the pair evacuated all the patrons of the store as well as residents in the floors above – totaling more than 50 people.

They then called firefighters to the scene, who determined there was a malfunctioning hot water heater in the basement of the store that was emitting the CO.

“If not for their actions, there could have been a loss of life,” said Lt. Craig Wing. “They did exactly what they were taught to do. They’re fantastic paramedics and fantastic individuals, I’m so proud of them.”

In today’s world the hero is steven slater who jeopardized peoples lives, those two paramedics just “did exactly what they were taught to do”.

#6 Slater’s actions could have caused serious injury had someone been in the path of the chute coming down. They did their job yes…and they did it well!!

I had my own experience plenty of times in kiryas joel when we arrive to a CO call an find out crazy CO PPM Levels and the CO Detector DOES NOT WORK, then when we’re asking the caller when it was the last time they checked the battery the answer is…., I DON’T WANNA CRITICSIZE PEPOLE IN KJ SPECIFICLY BUT ITS ALL AROUND!!, People grew up and start thinking the Importance of such’a little life saver, I’ll never forget when i ones responded to a CO Call to find out that It was about 125 in the apartment and ‘OVER 400 PPM in the Chimney (which actually caused the High CO Level problem) and when we asked the owner when he check the battery?? I believe you got the answer by now!!!

#10 – not sure I believe you. most units beep when the battery is low and continues to beep until you replace the battery (or do something really stupid like remove the battery). with that being said, I would venture to guess that MOST people forget to change the batteries when they change the clocks in the fall and spring. sorry to disillusion you but it is NOT a failing of Yidden as much as you would like to think that it is…

Poster # 6 (enlightened Yid, who, some say, is also an Apikoros / heretic. Because he thinks the Torah is anachronistic.) It’s time for YOU to get real. The poster was trying to make a point that in today’s (twisted / twitted) world, a guy like Slater, who threw a tantrum is becoming a hero and people who save other peoples’ lives are not recognized as heroes.
