Jerusalem – Hundreds Mark 20th Anniversary of Kahane’s Assassination

    21

Followers of the late Rabbi Meir Kahane, founder of both the Jewish Defense League (JDL) and the 'Kach' party, pray at his grave in Jerusalem, on 26 October 2010, as they mark the 20th aniversary of his assassination in a hotel in Manhattan, NY. Israeli lawmakes outlawed and banned the Kach party claiming it was rascist, but his extreme right-wing movement still has many followers. EPA/Jerusalem – Hundreds of far-right Jewish nationalists gathered on Tuesday to mark the 20th anniversary of the assassination of Rabbi Meir Kahane, the founder of a movement of anti-Arab Jewish militants.

“The ceremony is taking place to mark 20 years since his killing; it’s a memorial ceremony,” Itamar Ben Gvir, a prominent extreme-right activist told AFP from the gathering at a Jerusalem hotel.

Kahane, an American-born rabbi and political leader, was shot dead by an Arab gunman in Manhattan in November 1990.

The fiery ultra nationalist, who proposed expelling Arabs from Israel, was a deeply controversial figure in the Jewish state where he led his Kach movement to parliament before ultimately being banned as “racist.”

In the United States, he had founded and led the Jewish Defence League, a vigilante group aimed at countering anti-Semitism.

Ben Gvir said the memorial was taking place despite opposition from left-wing groups.

“We are used to this pressure from the left and it is ironic that they are the ones trying to stifle free speech,” he said.

He was a great Rabbi, who loved his fellow Jew more then his own life. If you really loved Eretz Yisroel you would agree with his policies 100%. Because every one of his predictions occurred. May his memory & Jewish pride live on.

He was right and unfortunately it took his death and the death of his children and thousands of others to open the blind eyes of too many.

    To Kanaaim (No. 7).

You might personallly agree with Kahane’s extreme right wing political agenda, but please don’t devalue the rhetoric by calling him a “gaon” or a “great tzadik” when the government of Israel called him a racist and the government of the U.S. deemed his group as “terrorists”. If I recall, the massacre at maarat ha’machpelah was committed by one of his followers. You are entitled to support his political agenda but don’t try to wrap that agenda in religious idealism.

Rabbi Kahane changed my life. His books helped me become a proud and frum Jew and understand how to be Boruch rather then Bernie. He was and is one of my heroes. May his memory be for a blessing and may G-d avenge his blood speedily.

Rabbi Kahane zt”l loved peace more then any left wing politician!
How? Through his honesty. He realized to prevent any bloodshed, the Arabs should part from the Jews and return peacefully where they came from, Jordan, Egypt, Irak, Lebanon, Syria, etc. Rabbi Kahane zt”l is the architect of the only peaceful solution in the ME.

Rabbi Meir Kahane spoke and lived from his heartfelt love of Israel and the Jewish people. His much too short life was an inspiration to many. Rabbi Kahane said what others were afraid to say but probably deep down knew he was right. Another poster said we need him now more than ever and that poster is correct!
