Five thousand participants are expected to run the four kilometer (2.5 mile) course Thursday through streets lined with pink banners and past Jerusalem’s Old City walls, which have been lit in pink.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Dallas-based organization sponsoring the event, organizes similar races in 141 world cities. Founder Nancy Brinker is in Israel for the race.
Organizers say breast cancer kills more Israeli women than any other disease.
Tamar Peretz, an oncologist at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem, says the high rate appears to be connected to environment, lifestyle and to a lesser extent, genetics.
Yasher koach to all the participants in this very worthwhile cause.
Given the high rate of breast cancer with the chareidi community, its really nice and a kiddush hashem to see that some chareidim are participating in this wonderful and worthwhile effort to raise funds as indicated by the photo above showing some individuals who are obviously chareidim marching in the parade.
To number 2: The race is not until Thursday. Where does it say that this Hasid was participating, he was simply walking home. I will give a compliment when I actually see a Hasid participate in the race and not throw rocks at the participants because they are wearing shorts.
To No. 3
Lets be positive and optimistic….maybe there will be a big charedi turnout on Thursday to cheer on the participants
the Charedi community may or may not participate as runners/walkers.
However we must donate to this vital cause
It is a sad commentary above posters have brought to mind, how many hassidic Jews, men and women, jog for their health, join a race for a cure that affects so many Jewish/Israeli women? We must be proactive and involved and teach our children the same or our yiddishkite will fail to exist.
