Costa Mesa, Calif.-based Experian recently acquired RentBureau and is including rental payment data into its traditional credit file. It makes it easier for college students, recent graduates and immigrants who pay their rent on time to boost their credit scores.

Credit reports have previously included credit card, mortgage, loan and finance company account information.

The Los Angeles Times reports the RentBureau database receives rental payment histories daily from a limited number of property managers. Its records include about eight million of the nation’s nearly 38 million rental units.

This is a positive step and will make credit reports much more reliable. As a landlord, we often are not told that prospective tennants have serious credit issues related to non-payment on prior leases and we don’t find out until they have already moved in and then we have great difficulty with evictions (even though they may not have told the truth on their applications). Now, we have the ability to know their true credit history before leasing.

From a tenants prospective: There should be a system for tenants to check out their prospective landlords. we have been renting at the same location (apt in private house) for 5 years. we always pay rent on time, a check has never bounced, my landlord never had to ask for a rent check. we arnt loud people, we are very clean people. so you ask what the problem is…

The issue is as follows our landlord husband and wife are cruel people, always looking for a reason to be upset with us. If our children walk across the floor……..OMG if my washing machine is on past 10pm, they see you in the street tottaly ignore you. Plain and simple nasty people.

Thanks G D we are moving out in a very months, however i wouldnt wish on anyone what we have gone through with these horses. Tenants should have access to check out landlords……………………..
