New York – “The world must intervene immediately and stop Muammar Gadhafi,” Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel said, referring to the Libyan leader.

The Jewish-American writer, professor, Holocaust survivor and world-renowned human rights activist told Haaretz that “if the reports about the number of people killed among the demonstrators in Libya are correct, the world cannot stand by. It must intervene to stop Gadhafi.”
“The question is, who will stop him?” Wiesel added.
Wiesel revealed that when he was in Davos, Switzerland a few years ago, Gadhafi’s son visited him and presented him with a formal invitation from his father to visit Libya.
“We promise you anything you ask. If you ask us to build a synagogue, we’ll agree,” Wiesel recalled Gadhafi’s son telling him. “Of course I refused the invitation,” Wiesel said. “I always object to being used by a dictator.”

Those rebelling against Gadhafi will be no better than Gadhafi and possibly worse. In Tunisia they attacked a shul just the other day.
Any movement for reform started by anyone in the Mideast is being usurped by the Muslims to whom life means nothing and death is everything. This is probably why Gadhafi is having a hard time despite the hundreds an maybe thousands that that are dead already.
Weisel should stay out of this as he obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
To #1 - You don’t have your facts in order. The majority of the people demonstrating in Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain (as well as those in Egypt), are not muslim radicals. All they want is simple human freedoms and dignities, which we take for granted; this includes the right to petition their government for redress; the right not to be arbitrarily arrested, beaten, tortured, imprisoned, and otherwise abused. If one beats a dog long enough, or abuses an animal such as an elephant, such animals will eventually turn on their masters. I agree with Elie Wiesel that help should be sent to the resistance in Libya. In 1994, only 17 years ago, the world communities did nothing while 900,000 men, women, and children were slaughtered in Rwanda, within a three month period. Is this going to happen again? We should not gloat or dismiss these legitimate uprisings, just because those participating are Arabs. There must be rachmonos, or compassion for these people. They have suffered under that monster Gaddafi for 42 years!
No! Don’t stop him! The longer he lingers the better it is for all of us. Let him and al quida / muslim brotherhood bloody each other for as long as possible. I regret that Mubarak gave in so depressingly early. I was hoping that his regime and brotherhood thin each other for our sake. Surely, it’s up to RSh”O how long any ruler lives and rules and how long any regime lasts, but it is to our advantage if they keep fighting, the more ferociously the better.
When the war between Iran and Iraq broke out, Henry Kissinger, who is not my go to for any opinion, did declare “It’s a shame that they can’t both lose”. Wise opinion, for a change, not to mention witty turn of the phrase.
