Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other city officials unveiled a new program today that allows New Yorkers to dispute tickets online.

The site has a space to let a user make his or her case and upload pictures or other evidence.

After completing the process, a judge should get back to the user within 10 days with a decision.

City leaders said New Yorkers no longer have to choose between swallowing an unfair ticket and taking a day off from work to fight it.

“We can’t stop giving out parking tickets. Because that is unfortunately one of the things that keeps people following the law. But we can make it easier to pay them, and we’re trying to make it easier to contest them if you think you were given one unfairly,” said Bloomberg.

The mayor says about city writes about 10 million parking tickets a year.

Of those, 10 percent are challenged and about half of all challenges are dismissed.

The website can also be used to dispute other violations, including litter or recycling fines.

To contest a parking ticket, visit www.nyc.gov.

“We can’t stop giving out parking tickets. Because that is unfortunately one of the things that keeps people following the law”

    Let me rephrase that.
“We can’t stop giving out parking tickets. Because that is fortunately one of the things that keeps generating cash for the city”.

What’s new about this? You’ve been able to dispute tickets online for years.

Can you imagine how BORING the administrative law judges will be, scrolling though these “virtual cases” one after another online. It will be so eay to quickly scan and dismiss them as “guilty as charged” just to finish one’s job quickly. At least when you walk in there’s the attempt to give you “the time of day”. I imagine that this will change the ratio of dismissed fines. A judge would have to really be motivated to do the rigt thing and give each case its due process. What’s to moke that happen, when no one looks over their shoulder? Careful befor you rush to upload your images…
Unless of course, they have to explain “their verdict” after viewing the evidence.

“Half of those challenged are dismissed!” That is simply untrue. Half the people accept the settlement offer to reduce the summons. That is not a dismissal as the city still collects most of the fine. A small fraction of summonses that end up challenged before a judge result in dismissal.

Mr. “Observe the Law and you will not be Ticketed” addressing the general readers here as “kinderlach,” please don’t be rude to us as we have all seen and it is well known that overzealous parking agents often write bogus tickets to law abiding citizens. Please swallow your inferiority before posting your opinion.

I don’t know anyone who has ever won their online case.
