The incident, witnessed by an AP reporter, began when some 200 settlers burned and uprooted trees Friday near the village of Qusra. Villagers threw stones at the settlers. Israeli troops arrived and fired tear gas, then live rounds. Settlers also fired their weapons.

The man killed was identified as 35-year-old Issam Badran. A Palestinian medic says he was shot in the neck. Another Palestinian was wounded and taken by the army.

The shooting came at a time of heightened tensions over Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ bid later Friday to seek U.N. recognition for a state of Palestine.

A VERY confusing, poorly written story!
‘Settlers’ were uprooting and burning arabs’ trees? Really? Why? IF it happened, what precipitated it?
Israeli troops fired tear gas and then live rounds? At whom? The ‘settlers’ or the arabs?
The ‘settlers’ fired too? At whom? In the air? At the arabs?

    Nice picture though!

I agree, they didn’t do a good job with this story. This is the same village that had its mosque burned and spray-painted with Hebrew graffiti a few weeks ago by settlers, right after the IDF dismantled some illegal buildings. There is a long history of local settlers harassing the residents of Qusra. Sorry, but under the rule of law, settlers DO NOT have the right to uproot trees, whether anything precipitated their anger or not. No one should be above the law and we Jews should hold ourselves to a higher standard, not the lower one the settlers follow.
