Passaic, NJ – Authorities in New Jersey have arrested a rabbi from Argentina on child pornography charges.

Passaic County sheriff’s detectives arrested 50-year-old Rabbi Gabriel Toledo at a kosher food distribution company in Moonachie on Thursday.
The Record newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/HxpE5R ) Sheriff Richard Berdnik issued a statement saying the rabbi was in possession of more than 1,000 images.
Toledo does not lead a local congregation and is in the U.S. on a visa. He’s been living in Passaic.
Authorities say his roommate, 22-year-old Joseph Vasquez, fled from detectives. He’s wanted as a fugitive child pornography charges.
The sheriff’s office says Vasquez is from Honduras and is in the United States illegally.
It’s not clear if the rabbi has hired a lawyer.
If Toledo does not lead a local congregation why in the world is he called a Rabbi??? It just makes it twice as much a chillul Hashem…what a sick world were living in Oh My Gosh!!!!!!

It is difficult for us to witness members of the world Jewish community being linked to acts of crime. This crime is linked to mental illness and like medical illness does not discriminate. It can affect anyone within society.Perhaps when we pray for Cholim B’soch Shaar Choley Yisrael we should pause and include those that are afflicted with mental illness.

The remarks so far posted here are saddening and disgusting regardless of which side of the issue the poster is on. Jews from Argentina dont count and thus the accused cant possbily be a real rabbi? I was unaware that as an Argentine Jew, I dont “count” in the eyes of fellow Jews. The accused does not lead a congregation anywhere. So what? there are many rabbis who do not lead congregations. The accused is a Jew. Why is it that when a Jew is accused of anything, the “anti-semitism” card is raised? Jews are human and are as capable of evil acts as any other person.
I agree that one should not embellish the story by claiming that a specific company employed this man, if one does not know that to be true. Child pornography is a crime and to say that one should simply have rachmones on the accused and let it go at that is beyond belief.
