Riccardo Di Segni, Rome’s chief rabbi, said the assault was not an “isolated event” but rather was part of a larger “campaign to demonize Jews” following Israel’s 1982 war with Lebanon. “A collective myth of blame” led to a “sacrificial ritual in which we were the designated victims,” Di Segni said.

Stefano Gay Tache, the brother of the murdered toddler, received a medal at the ceremony from Napolitano in memory of his brother.
