Rome – Italy paused today to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the October 9, 1982 terror attack at Rome’s main synagogue which killed a toddler and injured dozens of others. Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and other senior officials were among those assembled at the memorial in Rome. Palestinian terrorists orchestrated the deadly attack and used hand grenades and fired on Jewish congregants as they exited the synagogue following Shemini Atzeret services according to La Perfetta Letizia (http://bit.ly/RQ7xOe).

Riccardo Di Segni, Rome’s chief rabbi, said the assault was not an “isolated event” but rather was part of a larger “campaign to demonize Jews” following Israel’s 1982 war with Lebanon. “A collective myth of blame” led to a “sacrificial ritual in which we were the designated victims,” Di Segni said.
Stefano Gay Tache, the brother of the murdered toddler, received a medal at the ceremony from Napolitano in memory of his brother.
