New York, NY – Con Edison will be reaching into consumer’s wallets again – just in time for the New Year. Beginning in January, Con Ed customers can expect to pay an additional $9 on average per month owing to a price increase for energy plants approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

The New York Post reports (http://bit.ly/RTwFDJ) that elected officials at both the city and state level are urging FERC to reassess the price boost which will only serve to enrich power companies. “Customer bills will increase by hundreds of millions of dollars,” the pols wrote in a complaint filed with the regulatory agency. The MTA, the New York State Public Service Commission and the Port Authority are working to prevent the increase. Con Ed has also come out against the ruling, saying it does not want to pass along the additional costs to its customers.
The New York Power Authority estimates that if FERC’s ruling goes into effect, New York State residents will pay between $400 and $500 million. Of that bill, Con Edison customers in New York City will be forced to pay between $300 and $375 million.
Why is the FERC involved at all in utility pricing? This is supposed to be a free market auction…
Sure why not just charge us a few dollars more??? If they can do it, they will …what a bunch of thieves!!!!
The Government! The source of all problems.
You don’t have to be a victim of Con Edison. You can always choose a third party supplier to lower your energy bill. I did and it lowered my Con Edison Bill and I received a $50 dollar rebate check/.
