The NY Daily News (http://nydn.us/Ydn4sQ) is reporting that sources close to Recchia say he now plans to challenge Republican Rep. Michael Grimm who is at the center of a campaign fundraising scandal currently under investigation by both the FBI and the House Ethics Committee.
Despite rumblings, state Sen. Daniel Squadron (D-Brooklyn Heights) and City Councilwoman Letitia James (D-Fort Greene) have declined to enter the race. Both are said to be interested in a run for Public Advocate. Assemblyman Nick Perry (D-Flatbush) had also expressed interest, but has been unsuccessful in raising necessary funding.
With a reported war chest of $420,000, retired police captain Eric Adms now becomes the clear frontrunner.
Recchia spokeswoman, Ashleigh Owens, said the Councilman is currently consulting with family and friends and that an announcement could be forthcoming.
It seems a little early to project Adams as BP. There are still others who will choose to run including Charles Baron.
I don’t think borough presidents have the influence that the position once carried. It’s irrelevant who wins. Hopefully, Adams won’t just be a politician but someone who will promote Brooklyn’s unique history, arts, culture. Look at the New Brooklyn Public library and how it’s been gutted from its Brooklyn identity!
As a long life conservative I think Adams is a upstanding man and don’t think Michael Grimm would stand a chance against Adams.
I also like Michael Grimm personally and think that he is exactly what we need but unfortunately the scandal will hurt him.
jeanette Gadsen was the first black to run for brooklyn BP
why don’t we push for a candidate who is not against the Torah
Eric Adams is the last guy any conservative would endorse.
Position’s
Gay marriage -Yes
Late term abortion -Yes
Rich evil – Yes
Gun controle – Yes
Need anymore not to vote for him? You got to be kidding!
Ain’t going to fool anybody!
Your no conservative, your not even a RINO. One thing you are – A… Liberal!
QUESTION: What does Pirkei Avos say about trusting politicians?? Something like, they only use you when they need you for themselves and when they dont need you anymore they dont care about you… right??? Can someone explain this in detail??? I agree with the above comments, Eric Adams is way too liberal for us yidden. Why do we continue to support candidates who dont care about us 🙁 I heard Chaim Deutsch was going for B.P. and I hope he’s still running. He’s a proven leader who we can count on, not a politician who voted YES for gay marraige which is now law in NY. He is a parent paying high tuition rates like us and he lives in OUR community, the Jewish community. He shares OUR values and I hope Chaim runs for borough president!!
The job of Borough President in not only Kings County, but also in the other four Boroughs are mainly ceremonial posts. The term “Borough” is actually a misnomer, as each Borough are four distinct counties. In other jurisdictions, there are county commisisoners, who have a say in the budgetary process, and the funding for their respective counties. Unfortunately, the Borough Presidents have very little political power. Incidentally, I can’t understand why this article makes such a big tsimmis, pertaining to the ethnic background of Adams. Manhattan had its first Black Borough President, Hulan Jack, sixty years ago (1953).
