Borough Park, NY – Boro Park Hatzolah responded to the scene of a child on a bike that was struck by a school bus at 40th Street and 12th Avenue.

Hatzolah transported the child to Lutheran Medical Center in serious condition, NYPD Highway Accident Investigation team was requested.
Mom’s when will you learn not to let kids ride bikes to cheder, and without a helmet no less? there are school buses for that reason. Kids cannot be careful enough when riding bikes especially at corners..
The child is B”H ok. Was a minor accident.

to #4 , I was there, so I do know the circumstances..the kid crossed the Avenue not at the corner and was going very fast. No helmet. The bus had already made the turn when the kid came flying into the gutter. No way he could have seen the kid.The kid will be fine. He has a minor leg injury. I happen to know the driver, and let me say, more drivers should be as good as this driver. He is the most careful, nicest guy.
There are NYC bike laws and one of the laws is that every child under 14 must have a bicycle helmet and drive their bikes with a helmet. But as we are all too aware, traffic laws in Boro Park are suggestions, so why shouldn’t all other laws be suggestions too.
Chinka yeshiva if a staff sees there yeshiva boy riding with out a helmet the bike gets taken away for the rest of the year

the child wasn’t going to school on the bike all he did was drive his bike to the grocery on his corner and was crossing in the crosswalk and was hit by a bus making a left turn from 40th street onto 12th ave and yes the boy had the right of was he was crossing 12th ave he is in critical condition at this time and need lots of tehillim.
his mother wasn’t standing there and motioning him to cross as was mentioned by post #7 she was home with the other children. He had a school trip today and went to the grocery on the corner to get some nosh. All our 10 year old boys are outside on bikes alone and no parents watching over them. The boy had the right of way and unfortunatly the bus had a blindspot and didn’t see the boy crossing on his bike. He is in critical condition and undergoing surgery right now. Stop bashing the kid and his parents, after all it’s the bus drivers fault and the boy is totally inocent here

instead of making a rule about what kind of glasses you’re not allowed to wear, focus your energy on making safety rules such as bikes must be worn with helmets, and crossing should be done at a green light and crosswalk and no young boys alone allowed at the mikvah.
to #14 , the boy had no helmet and didnt cross at the corner, so how did he have the right of way? he came out from 2 parked cars AFTER the bus made the turn. There is no excuse for parents allowing kids to ride bikes without helments and crossing in the middle of the street.

The child is R’L unconscious, on a respirator, and undergoing multiple hours of surgery in a pediatric facility that he was transferred to.

This driver is the nicest and most careful driver. He has years of experience driving a bus. If only every driver were like him. Kids need to be careful to cross only at corners. Its unfair to blame the driver because the kid rode his bike at breakneck speed between 2 cars, and was in his blindspot.
