    New York – Visitors to Amazon.com Inc.’s Web page at around 2:55 PM were greeted by a “Website temporarily unavailable” message Monday afternoon.

    A message on the company’s homepage said “Our Website is currently unavailable while we make some improvements to our service. We’ll be open for business again soon, please come back shortly to try again. Thank you for your patience.”

    There was no official comment from Amazon. Amazon’s shares were up $1.22 at $286.04 in late trading.

    The site was back up at 3:35 PM.

    How much sales does Amazon loose on web outages, According to Buzzfeed, Amazon’s net sales in North America in 2012 were about $34.8 billion. And there are about 365 days in a year, breaking down to about 31.5 million seconds. Divide those two and you get a number of about $1,104 in net sales per second, on average.

    My wife spends yearly on Amazon $10,000 so according to Buzzfeed if the site was down for 49 minutes i just saved myself a couple of bucks. YAY

    I wonder how long until amazons stock is $500 or more per share. They are the 800lbs gorilla in the room and they are only getting more comfortable and growing
