Troopers conducted the speed enforcement operation Sunday on I-84 in the Dutchess County town of East Fishkill, 60 miles north of New York City.
Police say 79 drivers were ticketed for breaking the highway’s 65-mph speed limit. Troopers also issued another 31 tickets for other traffic infractions such as failure to wear a seat belt, driver use of a hand-held cellphone or other electronic device, and violation of the state’s “move-over” law.
I-84 spans Orange, Dutchess and Putnam counties between the Pennsylvania and Connecticut borders.
My friend was issued 2 ticket, א חוצפה!
Absurd.
How much above 65MPH before you get a ticket I mean if I drive 70MPH do I receive a ticket or they ignore it??
legal mafia
dina d’malchusa dina (if someone can translate it please)
Stupid. You go with a flow, same speed as other drivers, or get hit by faster moving cars!
Corruption, new source of revenues.
This is not chutzpa or mafia. If someone broke the law he deserves a ticket! There is nothing wrong that a police had mazel and finished his ticket book! Everyone knows that when you speed or talk on your cell then you can get a ticket so i guess they were ready to get a ticket!
Good! Break the law, pay the price!
It’s called creative revenue the Democrats way
# 1-4…It’s really terrible that they want to fine you for breaking the law. How dare they? Are you kidding me???? It is the Police’s job to keep the roads safe and driving at the speed limit is one way to enforce that. They should make this “blitz” permanent to avoid more traffic accidents and deaths.
prepare your self cops are doing a full training for the upcoming summer….
i guess now everybody will protest against this anti semitism. i mean if people want to speed it’s their right
As they used to sing on Baretta(remember?) “Don’t do the crime unless you’re ready to do the time”.
Move to Texas where the limit is 85 on some highways.
Then again, don’t move to Texas.
Once saw a highway sign in Israel. It set the speed limit at 100 kph and said “Lo Tirtzach!”
There’s an interesting halachic question: may one drive above the speed limit?
As I understand it, in brief the answer is that one may drive with the traffic, ie if everyone is driving 70 mph in a 65 mph zone, it’s okay to drive 70 mph.
Driving much above that or at a speed that is known to be dangerous, regardless of how fast the other cars are driving, would be assur.
(This is with regard to the sugyas of shomer pesayim HaShem and dashu bei rabim.)
Unfortunately, we do not obey as much attention to issues such as these, and issues of ‘ve’nishmartem me’od l’nafsho’sei’chem’ as we should–with tragic results in so many cases.
The tickets were not given based on whether the drivers were wearing yeshivish lvush or driving a 9 passenger Odyssey van at 90 mph…..this was a legitimate traffic enforcement effort and frum yidden should be grateful to the police for their aggressive enforcement of speeding laws.
One time, I was driving on I-71, between Columbus, OH and Cleveland, OH. About halfway between those two cities, and while driving in the center lane, at no more than 65mph, two reckless Ohio State Patrol troopers sped by me (one in the extreme right lane, and the other in the extreme left lane), at virtually the same time, each doing 80-85mph. They performed a “double-header”; that is, they stopped two speeding cars in front of me, at the same time. They did not have their sirens on, and it was fortunate that they did crash into me or any other cars . Incidentally, one cannot drive even one mile over the speed limit, and not expect to receive a ticket. 65mph means exactly that. It doesn’t mean 68, or 72 mph. I know that there are some times, when someone has to speed up, in order to pass a slow moving vehicle. However, it doesn’t mean that one should speed with impunity. Incidentally, if someone is one a two lane highway in the right lane, and there is an emergency vehicle in back with lights on (police, fire, EMS), they are not obligated to pass you on the left lane. Rather, you must move to the shoulder, until they pass.
The cops are right for giving out tickets, but i gotta agree, it sure sucks to get a ticket.
