New York – New York’s governor may have won a comfortable margin in the Democratic primary, but his challenger’s stronger-than-expected performance shows he faces difficulties with environmentalists, state workers and voters critical of his handling of corruption.

Cuomo defeated Fordham University law professor Zephyr Teachout 62 percent to 34 percent in Tuesday’s matchup.
Few observers had predicted she would crack 30 percent.
Teachout voters interviewed by The Associated Press cited Cuomo’s stance on hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, his dismissive response to Teachout and his move to disband the anti-corruption Moreland Commission as the reasons they cast their votes for the underdog.
Cuomo supporters say Teachout’s surprising primary showing doesn’t reflect the wide support Cuomo’s centrist policies enjoy among most voters.
The governor faces Republican Rob Astorino and Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins in November.
