Get local police to review your building for security a

Ed Day is an old fashion Irish cop antasemit. Don’t be fooled by him and the Republican Party in Rockland. I heard him talk loud and clear on the subject. He’s a real hoont.

All the prevention measures that can be fathomed can be in place, and tragic events cannot be stopped. Those that focus on simply upgrading our Torah and Mitzvos, while pushing a great thing, are also missing the point. The immediate reason why these tragedies happen is because they can. And until our community is hermetically sealed, prevention will never be 100% solid. The politicians are talking about increasing security at shuls and schools. That is woefully inadequate. We just spent an entire week of “Chanukah parties or mesibos”. Nearly all of them were held in homes, not in shuls or catering halls. Without deterrents, our homes are not safe either. Jersey City proved that even a business is not guaranteed safe.

אם ה’ לא ישמור עיר שוא שקד שומר. Yes, ultimately, HKB”H is our porotector. But we are also expected to do what we can, in a manner that is efficient, effective, and responsible. There will always be crazies around. And this one was not carrying a gun. Having gun laws that allow for security to be handled internally might be useful. We also need a system that insures the perpetrators are put away for life. Whether that is a mental hospital or prison is irrelevant. Street justice might also be useful. Politicians will not agree to this publicly. But privately, they need to permit us to handle these perpetrators in a manner that will be a recognized deterrent. Yes, I reminisce about the JDL. The streets of Brooklyn were safe. Yes, I reminisce about “Chaptzem”. Streets in Wmsbg were safe. But we must do something useful. Tweets and empty promises and condemnations do not save lives. They are made to garner support and votes, and we should not be fooled by such moves.

Ed Day is a Republican. Currently, President Trump heads the party, and if he wants Jews protected in Rockland county, Ed understands his choices. However, who do you think will qualify for his security protection? Perhaps, it will only be those shuls and schools that are in complete compliance with local ordinances. So too, if cameras are installed, who controls access to them? Let’s hope that local officials understand that they are under national scrutiny over their policies, as the Monsey community isn’t just this little hamlet tucked inside the larger Ramapo and Spring Valley villages. Personally, I’ve found the Ramapo police to be real public servants, helpful, and judicious. Still, I strongly agree that our safety is in our Creator’s hands, so mitzvot and prayers show our commitment to Him and our protection.

Please note also that the recent attempted mass shooting in the Texas church was ended in six seconds by armed church members.
