JERUSALEM (VINnews) — As Israel gradually returns to normal activity, with all stores open except for markets and malls, the question of how Yeshivas can return to their previous routine without endangering public health has been hotly debated in government circles.

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri suggested a framework Tuesday which would allow the return of Yeshivos to normal study. The framework would close all of the dormitories, with yeshiva students sleeping in their homes or near their yeshivos and spending only the hours of the day in the yeshiva while maintaining social distancing regulations. Kollel students would study in open places while maintaining social distancing as well.

Deri stressed that the public has internalized safety regulations and there is no reason not to open yeshivos if all public places including stores, workplaces and kindergartens are already opened (as of next Sunday, kindergartens and grades 1-3 will return to a partial framework.)

Deri also requested allowing 100 men and 100 women to participate in weddings while maintaining social distancing regulations.

Deri’s framework received a preliminary authorization, with Prime Minister Netanyahu stipulating that Deri coordinate the moves with the heads of the National Security Council and the Health Ministry Director-General.

However Deri’s framework met with resistance from the Gur Chasidic sect, who stated that they are not prepared to open the yeshivos at present as long as there is even the slightest possibility of danger to health involved.

Netanyahu met with the heads of coalition factions to discuss among other matters the issue of lighting bonfires on Lag Ba’Omer. The factions decided that htere should be no bonfires allowed around the country and that there should be three lightings at Meron for three sectors: One for the Boyan Chasidim whose rebbe traditionally lights there, one for the Sephardim and one for the religious Zionist community. Each lighting will be accompanied by a small group of pre-selected people.

“should be no bonfires allowed around the country”

How can people be yoitze Lag B’omer without a local hadlukeh?? Where does it say in any poisek that you can be yoitzeh Lag B’omer with a Zoom hadlukeh?? You won’t find such a heter written in any of the old poiskim anywhere!

We know that הדלקה עושה מצוה, the hadlukeh of Lag B’omer makes all the mitzvos of the year, like אדמו”ר מבאבא מעשה taught.

No wonder why some people say it is a malchis haminis, they want to be oiker the inyan of hadlukeh from the hamoin.
