The planes from the two demonstration squadrons flew in formation over New York and Newark beginning at noon. The formation was set to fly over Trenton, New Jersey, and Philadelphia.

“We are incredibly honored to have the opportunity to salute those working on the frontline of the COVID-19 response, we are in awe of your strength and resilience,” said Navy Cmdr. Brian Kesselring, U.S. Navy Blue Angels commanding officer and flight leader. “Thank you to all of those in essential industries keeping our nation moving forward. We will get through this. We are all in this together.”

Sorry ,if anyone disagrees …there is no place to get tested for the virus ,not enough protective equipment for medical professionals …but for the Blue Angels there is funding ????!!!!!! The amount of $$$$ to do a stunt is staggering !!!! It is beyond belief !!!!!

I agree, Zev; it costs thousands of dollars per hour for each plane, for maintenance, fuel, parts, etc. I can’t believe that our government would waste such money on a fancy flyover, which was not needed.

Another point of view:

The budgets for both teams were set before October, and as all air shows have been cancelled everywhere due to the shutdown…today’s flyover could not have cost the taxpayer anything more than would any Navy or USAF fighter unit in their ordinary training regimen…this was a flyover, not a high thrust aerobatic display.

Perhaps more significant, it is a rare event when the Navy and Air Force teams fly together; that they flew together today…and that they did so in honor of medical personnel and first responders in the front lines of the struggle against Covid-19 says much for the gravity of the moment – and for the military’s empathy for victims of this tragedy.

I live on the flight path between NYC and Trenton, and my wife and I heard them first, and then saw them directly overhead at 8,000 feet or higher. Frankly, they brought tears to my eyes.
