Madoff “was never truly remorseful,” Judge Denny Chin of the Court of Appeals in New York wrote in his decision Thursday to reject the request from February, The Associated Press reported. Madoff’s lawyers presented medical documents in the request saying he is dying of kidney cancer.

Chin sentenced Madoff in 2009 to 150 years in prison connected to the scheme that Madoff, who is Jewish, had been running for years. He scammed thousands of victims out of billions of dollars, including a number of Jewish organizations.

Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 felony charges related to money laundering, perjury and falsifying financial documents.

“Even at the end, he was trying to send more millions of his ill-gotten gains to family members, friends, and certain employees,” Chin wrote in his decision to reject the early release motion, AP reported.

Not healthy for a senior like that to stay in jail under covid. We let others put we should be compassionate and let a sick old man out to.

How much more can Madoff be punished? One of his sons died by natural causes; the other killed himself. His wife, Ruth Madoff wants nothing to do with him. He is slowly dying of kidney failure. What is the point of this idiotic judge, keeping him in prison, until he croaks? Murderers and perpetrators of heinous crimes and drug dealers are released from prison all of the time. Enough is enough-free Madoff now!

The point of keeping him in jail is to punish him and to deter others. Some crimes are almost accidents. Imagine a tax problem. Some crimes are the result of stupidity, like drunk driving. We punish that. Some crimes are committed because of poverty. We punish those crimes.

This fellow had every advantage. He did not accidentally defraud people. He was a professional he did not make a mistake. He decided to take their money. He really did not need the cash. He used it live the high life.

Probably locking up a drunk driver will not deter the next fool. Some people are just stupid and drink too much. Locking up Madoff is an object lesson to others thinking about swindling people. They can see that if they are caught they will spend the rest of their lives in jail.

By keeping Madoff locked up we are helping others keep on the right side of the law.

I seem to recall that many here like the old adage, “If you are kind to the cruel you end up being cruel to the kind.” Why wouldn’t that apply here?

Let him rot in jail. It is sad but serves as an important lesson.

Think of the thousands of lives he has ruined. Think of the elderly who overnight lost everything. I dont quite know or understand why anyone feels sorry for him?
