WASHINGTON (Newsmax) – A top trade official in the Trump administration said it’s “absolutely untrue” that he overheard the president begging Chinese leader Xi Jinping to buy agricultural products to help win reelection in the United States.

That’s one of several claims made by former national security adviser John Bolton in his new book, “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir.”
United States Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer denied the claim from an excerpted portion of Bolton’s book, while speaking at a Senate Finance Committee hearing on Wednesday as seen on C-SPAN. The interchange starts an hour and nine and half minutes in on the tape.
“There was a meeting in on the outskirts of the G-20, in Osaka between the president and President Xi, and I was in that meeting,” Lighthizer said during a Senate hearing Wednesday. “Absolutely untrue. Never happened,” Lighthizer said of the allegation. “I was there. I’ve no recollection of that ever happening. I don’t believe it’s true. I don’t believe it ever happened.”
Lighthizer continued: “I don’t want you to think I’m being deceptive. I said what meeting I was at, and this never happened at it. For sure.”
In his book, Bolton details a meeting during the June 2019 Group of 20 summit in Japan. He accused Trump of turning “the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability to affect the ongoing campaigns, pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win.”
“He stressed the importance of farmers, and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome. I would print Trump’s exact words but the government’s prepublication review process has decided otherwise,” Bolton wrote.
If he wants to keep his job he has to say whatever Trump orders him. The day he is fired or quits he will tell the truth just like Bolton, Kelly, Mattis, Cohen, Scaramucci etc. As lkong as he is employed by Trump he has no choice. Clinton, Obama, Bush ex employees never called their BOSS a LIAR, Insane,TRAITOR etc. Not one. We have here a dz who tells us the truth about Trump. Not a single one will defend him (unless he pays their salaries like this poor guy)

Just wonder How long will take them to drop Trump when the time comes? 1 day? 90% of the Orthodox here voted and Raved about Romney when he was running against Obama, now he is a liar, traitor liberal. Lightizer said he had “no recollection.” The govt. designated the exact words that were said as classified. Bolton is known to take copious notes and has a reputation of being honest.
Trumpers have to pick one: If Bolton is lying then it is not classified. If it is deemed to be classified than Bolton is telling the truth. Pick one.
I suppose they can release a transcript of the conversation but no one is thinking about this right now. Trump should let the Bolton thing blow over. By October, all the claims in the book will be old news. Same with his niece and her book.
He has bigger problems besides negative books, walking on ramps and drinking water. He is running neck and neck with a home-bound 77 year old and Iran and Venezuela announced they are shipping to one another just to thumb their nose at the U.S. North Korea blew up a building in which it meets with South Koreans and the Chinese and Indian armies just had their second firefight, the police are in retreat, and 10 states are getting hit hard with Covid with 23 states unable to break the curve.
I am not blaming Trump for all of these things (only some) but the books are small potatoes.
Un-redacted version of Bolton book reveals what Trump told President Xi last year when Trump asked China to help his campaign: “Make sure I win… Buy a lot of soybeans and wheat and make sure we win.”
