TEHRAN (VINnews) — An Israeli flag was seen hanging on a bridge in Tehran with the words “Thank you Mossad” emblazoned near it. The flag is an unusual sign which may indicate that not all Iranians condemn the assassination of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh two weeks ago.

In the days after the assassination there were few positive reactions, as Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei swore to avenge the death of Fakhrizadeh, the scientist who headed the nuclear program in the country and hundreds of demonstrators on the streets of Tehran protested against Israel. However after the authorities repeatedly reversed their version of events, even suggesting that the hit was made from a satellite, Iranians have increasingly mocked the authorities, and one local blogger wrote derisively regarding the hanging of the flag that “people are saying that this was also done by satellite.”
At the end of last week Fakhrizadeh’s son gave an interview in which he rejected the theory that a satellite was involved and said that “my father was killed by 4-5 bullets.” He added that his mother was in the car and was not injured, which indicates that the assassins were nearby.
“Thank you Mossad.”
