ABU DHABI (VINnews) — Omar Al Olama has one of the most prominent positions in the UAE,as he is the worlds’ first minister of artificial intelligence (AI). In his role Al Olama attempts to spearhead the technological advances of the wealthy Gulf state, which has initiated a national program for artificial intelligence under the motto “The UAE seeks to be a major hub for developing AI techniques and legislation.” The program seeks to use AI to enrich government initiatives in a variety of sectors, including social and communal development, government services, global partnerships, information dissemination, and national security.

The subject of national security is especially close to Al Olama’s heart as the 30-year-old minister has enlisted in the UAE’s army for his stint of military service. Every morning he dons military garb and drives to his base where he joins other cadets in training and learns firsthand about how his nation’s army performs. Later on the same day Al Olama doffs his uniform and becomes a minister once again, meeting with delegations including Israelis keen to collaborate with the UAE’s exciting tech vision.
