Users were leaving the platform in protest of WhatsApp’s orignal announcement that all users must accept the new terms by Feb 8 in order to continue using the platform.

WhatsApp now says users will have until May 15 to accept the new terms.

“We’ve heard from so many people how much confusion there is around our recent update,” said a WhatsApp spokesman. “There’s been a lot of misinformation causing concern and we want to help everyone understand our principles and the facts.”

WhatsApp says that most users have unfounded fears about their data suddenly being shared with Facebook.

WhatsApp clarified that the new policy isn’t expanding he company’s ability to share data with Facebook. Rather, the update will allow businesses to interact with customers on WhatsApp and store those conversations on Facebook servers.
