Sacked Worker From Keystone XL Project Vents Frustration On Social Media

NEW YORK (VINnews) — One of Joe Biden’s first acts as president was to issue an executive order cancelling the Keystone XL oil and gas pipeline project approved by his predecessor. The pipeline was to carry millions of gallons of oil from Alberta, Canada to refineries in the US. It would have transported up to 830,000 barrels of heavy crude oil a day, replacing production from Latin American countries and cutting fuel costs for Americans. However Biden, who has been against the project from the start for environmental reasons, signed an order cancelling the project within hours of assuming the presidency.

The order has led to thousands of people working on the project losing their jobs. One of them took to social media to vent his frustration at losing his job because of “the stroke of a pen”. (Warning: multiple expletives)

The worker describes how he will probably have to sell his car and does not know how he will pay the mortgage on his house. He then expresses what he feels happened in the election:

“It just doesn’t f***in make any sense. It doesn’t make any sense. HOW! Did Donald Trump… I know how – They took it! They didn’t steal the election. When you steal something that’s when no one knows that you took it. But they outright boldly went in and said, “We’re gonna f***ing take this presidency from you. Screw the American people. Screw you, Donald Trump. Screw everybody! America last! Oh, and by the way, you guys are going to lose your job!”

Guy Williams, another newly redundant employee who has worked in the pipeline industry for 53 years, told Fox News that Biden’s executive order was a “kick in the stomach” which “knocked the wind out of you.” Williams had planned to supplement his pension by continuing his job as a welding foreman. Williams, who says he has worked in 48 different states in the US, insists that pipeline workers have done numerous environmental studies during the course of laying pipelines: “We’ve done our due diligence”, he says, referring to efforts made by the company to prevent environmental damage by making the project carbon neutral.

When asked what he would tell President Biden, Williams said that he would ask the president to look in the eyes of those who lost their jobs and see how with one stroke of the pen he “killed 11,000 jobs.”

They canceled this due to politics, of course.

There is also no reason to throw thousands of people out of work with no warning, no transition plan for them, etc.

Went from being rightfully upset about the pipeline right to complaining that the election was stolen. Technology causes economic dislocation even as it advances society.

Tens of thousands of people worked to breed, raise, sell and care for horses. We didn’t prevent the advent of the car. These workers need to have government help them transition to a new industry, not for the U.S. to stick with an outmoded solution in order to keep people employed.

China and the EU understand that. Americans used to always complain that people were buying foreign cars. It’s only when GM and Ford decided to stop whining and to actually compete by making better cars that jobs were protected.

The stock market has about 12 companies making electric cars. Americans will buy them. Then jibs in oil will be lost anyway. Coal mining jobs decreased under Trump. Not because Trump didn’t try his best to save them, but because no one wants coal anymore. Trump promised to save an industry and failed because it couldn’t be saved.
