JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Foreign Minister and Alternative Prime Minister Yair Lapid has made a number of unfortunate statements since entering the ministry, including an embarrassing tweet from the Emirates last week in which he used very basic English to welcome the peace between the countries, earning him jeers from Israelis who were unimpressed by the English used.

However Lapid’s latest gaffe could have led to further embarrassment, since he tweeted a blessing to America for its Independence Day but used the wrong flag in his emoji. Lapid wrote: “245 years of prosperity, liberty and freedom. Mazal Tov to our most dear friend, America. Israel has no closer allies that the US and the US has no better friends than Israel.” However he mistakenly added the flag of Liberia.

The tweet was erased a few moments later but not before some cynical responses had been received. The new media advisor to former premier Netanyahu, Topaz Luk, tweeted that “I didn’t know that in Liberia they celebrate American Independence Day. Israel-US relations are in the good hands of someone who doesn’t even know the flag of the US.”

Yair Netanyahu tweeted: “How cute is our foreign minister and acting prime minister Yair Lapid. In honor of American Independence Day he put an emoji of Liberia’s flag.”

Well, Liberia is a former quasi American colony, started mostly by freed sleeves. So, with July 4th coming so soon after Juneteenth, Lapid’s confusion may be understandable.
Or not.
