JERUSALEM (VINnews) — The Jewish world mourns the loss of Rabbi Avrohom Dovid Auerbach, the rabbi and head of the rabbinical court in Tiberias and the son of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach Zts’l.

Rabbi Auerbach was born 86 years ago in the Shaarei Chesed neighborhood of Jerusalem and studied in the Etz Chaim cheder and later in Yeshivas Slabodka. He married the daughter of Rabbi Asher Zeev Werner, the previous rabbi of Tiberias.
After the death of his father-in-law, Rabbi Auerbach was appointed to fill his place and served for more than 40 years as rabbi of the city, holding influence over religious life in the city and fighting to preserve the sanctity of Shabbos as well as establishing a recognized and prestigious kashrus organization which serves many communities. Rabbi Auerbach provided kashrus supervision for local businesses as well as for poultry factories. Rabbi Auerbach also authored a set of books named Pischei Avraham.
In the last few weeks Rabbi Auerbach was hospitalized with acute pneumonia and after his situation deteriorated he passed away early Monday morning. He will be buried in the Tiberias cemetery at 4 PM.
Israeli Chief Rabbi David Lau eulogized Rabbi Auerbach stating that he was a “spiritual lighthouse for the entire northern region. His genius and mastery of all aspects of Torah were known far and wide and about him it can be said “woe over those who are lost but not forgotten.”
