The incident occurred at 6:30 A.M. The terrorist – a 30-year-old resident of the village of Kabatiya near Hevron- exited the Temple Mount and walked past police stationed at Shalshelet Gate adjacent to the mount. When police challenged her, she took out a butcher’s knife and tried to stab the policemen, who responded with gunfire, killing the terrorist.

A police statement said that “the awareness and speedy response of police to the incident led to the neutralizing of the terrorist without any casualties to our forces. Medical teams arriving at the scene declared the terrorist dead.”

Jerusalem District commander Doron Turjeman arrived at the scene and received a summary of the incident from the forces involved.

Jerusalem has been targeted recently in a number of terrorist attacks. Two weeks ago a terrorist stabbed two yeshiva students near the Central Bus Station and a few days beforehand a terrorist tried to stab a policeman at Lion’s Gate near the old city. In both incidents the terrorists were shot dead by security forces.

Security forces on an arms search operation in the village of Burqin near Jenin were fired at by a terrorist early on Thursday morning. The forces responded promptly and shot the terrorist dead. Another terrorist was arrested during the incident.
