German Family Minister Anne Spiegel Visits Refugees From Odessa Childrens Home Hosted By Local Chabad

NEW YORK (VINnews) — Germany’s Family Minister Anne Spiegel, a member of the government cabinet, paid a special visit to the Chabad House in Berlin last week. The Chabad House is currently hosting more than 100 children from the Odessa Children’s Home, who fled the war in Ukraine.

Minister Spiegel, together with the staff of her office, visited the children and took the opportunity to have personal conversations with them, during which she heard from them about their experiences during the escape journey from Ukraine as well as about their new lodgings.

The minister was received by the rabbi of Berlin and Chabad emissary, Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel. At the beginning of the visit, the rabbi gave the minister a tour of the place where the children from Odessa were staying. The children are members of the  Children’s Home run by Chabad emissary and rabbi of Odessa, Rabbi Avraham Wolf and his wife Chaya.

Spiegel, herself a mother of four, was happy to see that the children had found their place in their new home in Berlin. “The family atmosphere that prevails among the big and small children amazed me,” the minister said enthusiastically in a conversation with media representatives at the visit.

The Minister gave the children special gifts and wished them a happy life of stability. She also thanked Rabbi Teichtel and the staff of the Jewish Center for the tremendous mission of kindness they have undertaken, and promised to provide any assistance needed for the continued establishment of the ‘Children’s Home’ in its new location.
