The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry posted a picture of Johnson speaking with Zelensky in his Kyiv office. Johnson has repeatedly stressed his support for Ukraine and has said that Putin’s actions there “qualify as war crimes.”

“The UK is the leader in the defense support of Ukraine,” Sybiha wrote.

Sybiha described Johnson as “the leader of the anti-war coalition. The leader of sanctions on the Russian aggressor.”

Afterwards the two strolled through the streets of Kyiv, meeting local residents.

Johnson’s trip to the Ukrainian capital, which was not announced beforehand, followed visits to Kyiv of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Friday and the visit of the Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer earlier on Saturday.
